ala, the premier location for Levantine Cuisine in the heart of Washington, DC - Dupont Circle, is looking for a new face to bring on to the team as a Sous Chef.

We use the finest, local ingredients. We are officially on the search for the perfect Sous Chef to lead our new team and blow DC away with your culinary expertise. You don't need to have middle eastern or Mediterranean experience.

We focus on cooking & mixology from the Levant, an area of the world that has a long history and a colorful past. When our guests join us at ala, we want them to feel the overwhelming sense of being one with a variety of colors. From the colors of the ingredients they are enjoying or the cocktails they are sipping to the colorful expressions of each of our team members & guests who surround them, ala provides an experience for everyone who enters.  


Our perfect candidate has:

Responsibilities
  • Plan and direct food preparation and culinary activities
  • Modify menus or create new ones that meet quality standards
  • Estimate food requirements and food/labor costs
  • Supervise kitchen staff’s activities
  • Arrange for equipment purchases and repairs
  • Rectify arising problems or complaints
  • Give prepared plates the “final touch”
  • Perform administrative duties
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
  • Keep time and payroll records
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers
Skills
  • Proven working experience as a sous chef
  • Excellent record of kitchen management
  • Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently
  • Capable of delegating multiple tasks
  • Communication and leadership skills
  • Keep up with cooking trends and best practices
  • BS degree in Culinary science or related certificate
