Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium has a hiring preference for qualified Alaska Native and American Indian applicants pursuant to P.L. 93-638 Indian Self Determination Act.

Summary: Provides professional nursing services to accomplish the individual patient plan of care; independently and consistently using the nursing process to safely, therapeutically, and efficiently care for a full assignment of patients with subtle and sometimes unidentified needs. Supports the operations of the Emergency Services Department at the Alaska Native Medical Center.

Responsibilities: Evaluates one’s own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and relevant statutes and regulations, identifying short and long term professional goals.

U tilizes the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as the foundation for nursing practice.

I nteracts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and others practicing in a Shared Governance model of nursing practice.

M akes decisions and takes actions on behalf of patients are determined in an ethical manner, and care is delivered in a nonjudgmental and nondiscriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity preserving patient autonomy, dignity, and rights.

C ollaborates with the patient, family, and other health care providers in the formation of overall goals and the plan of care, as well as in decisions related to care and the delivery of services.

C onsiders factors related to safety, effectiveness, evidence based-practice, and cost in planning & delivering patient care, and assists the patient and family in identifying and securing appropriate and available services to address health-related needs.

D elivers timely and effective nursing care according to established standards including physical, social and emotional care.

P erforms nursing assessments, interventions, and evaluations.

D irects the day to day activities of LPNs, NAs and PSAs.

P erforms other duties as assigned.

K nowledge of Alaskan culture.

K nowledge of nursing theorists and ability to provide theory based care for patients.

K nowledge of shared governance environment with shared-decision making.

S kill in critical thinking to provide effective and compassionate nursing care, assessing patient situations and taking effective courses of action.

S kill in providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

S kill in providing effective nursing services, assessing patient situations and taking effective courses of action.

S kill in assessing and prioritizing multiple requests by patients, families, and team members.

S kill in evaluating health problems, and making recommendations based on observations.

S kill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

M INIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

A n Associates Degree in Nursing. Equivalent knowledge, experience, education, or training may be substituted for education. Must have participated in 30 hours every 2 years continuing education in nursing in general, 16 of which are in the specific area of practice.

M INIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

S pecific experience may be required for each work area.

M INIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

C urrent license in the State of Alaska as a Registered Nurse.

C urrent Basic Life Support card required.

A dvanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification are required within twelve (12) months of hire.

P REFERRED EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

B achelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.

N ational certification is preferred.
