MEDICATION AIDE / MED TECH

ALBEMARLE CHARLOTTESVILLE REGIONAL JAIL
This position is employed by the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail Board Authority. This position is
not employed by Albemarle County, Albemarle County Public Schools & Local Government
Registered Medication Aides OR EMT’s with medication training needed for the Albemarle-
Charlottesville Regional Jail. We are looking for Registered Medication Aid. As a Registered Medication
Aide (RMA) you will be responsible for administering prescribed medications in accordance with
physician orders, State regulations, and facility policy. 1 year of experience is required. Experience in
corrections environment is desired but not required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Requires gathering, organizing, analyzing, examining, or evaluating data or
information and creating an individualized plan of care based on established protocols. In addition to
the requirement of possessing proficient computer usage skills; this position necessitates the handling
or use of machines, tools or equipment requiring brief instruction or experience, such as, but not limited
to, FAX machines, copiers, telephones, and medical equipment; Requires performing semi‐skilled work
involving set procedures and rules but with frequent problems; Requires reading technical instructions,
procedures, manuals, and charts to solve practical problems; composing routine reports with proper
format and grammar; Requires attention to detail with long periods of concentration for accurate results
and frequent exposure to unusual pressure. Experience in the corrections setting is preferred but not
required.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSE AND EDUCATION: Valid VA
state driver’s license. Hold, or be eligible for, CPR/AED Certifications. Successful completion of approved
program in direct care or an approved nurse aide education program and successful completion of a 68
hour medication training program and performance record approved by the VA Board of Nursing and
current Virginia registration as a Medication Aide or successful completion of a nursing education
program preparing for Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse licensure or current enrollment in a
nursing education program preparing for RN or LPN licensure and completion of at least 1 clinical course
in the program that includes at least 40 hours of direct client care clinical experience.
PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS: Requires work that involves
walking or standing, pushing and pulling involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis
and requires frequent keyboard operations. The job risks potential exposure to biohazards. The job
requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities, color perception.
Responsible for guiding others, requiring frequent decisions affecting co‐workers and others who
depend on the service or product; works in a moderate to highly fluid environment with rules and
procedures but with many variations from the routine.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Both full time and per diem positions are available. Full time
position has benefits that include medical, dental, vision and participation in the Virginia State
Retirement system. Starting is $43,092 or 20.72 per hour .
