About the job

The Commercial Sustainability Manager role is a key part of the team that develops, owns, and provides world class market analysis and critical insights to support Alcoa in making key strategic commercial decisions associated with developments in the aluminum value chain, including the anticipation of future scenarios resulting from sustainability, decarbonization and technological trends with potential to impact the segment.

As a member of the Marketing Team, this professional will have global accountability for the development of market outlooks and strategic insights to drive progress in Alcoa's sustainable products both today and into the future. A critical focus of the role will be working in close partnership with the Strategy & Innovation team to develop future business models for breakthrough technologies, including Elysis and Astraea. The role will also have many touchpoints both internally and externally with Alcoa Sales, Strategy, Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement as well as external connections with industry experts and associations.

Major activities

• Lead strategy for the Alcoa global commercial outlook and assumptions for business-critical breakthrough technologies

• Define relevant questions where commercial data is needed in breakthrough technology business cases.

• Manage complexity and ambiguity to prioritize the framing of the most important commercial questions given inherent uncertainty with technologies still in development and future market conditions.

• Lead internal cross-functional team to frame and determine appropriate commercial assumptions working with the Alcoa Commercial Team (including Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain and Procurement) as well as Strategy & Innovation, Operations, Finance, and others.

• Scope and source external data as needed from qualified external experts including from consultancies and industry players.

• Develop view on the future value of low carbon products and potential pathways for Alcoa to be involved in.

• Present outlook to Alcoa Chief Commercial Officer and Chief Strategy & Innovation Officers

• Coordinate global projects and analyses related to Commercial Sustainability and Alcoa's sustainable product line.

• Develop and update dynamic model containing sustainability indicators which may impact supply-demand fundamentals in the aluminum industry including anticipating when balances shift and tracking major industry trends impacting trade flows.

• Project impact from global, regional and country-level regulatory trends such as the European Union Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and US Section 232.

• Model size of current and future green aluminum market given expectations for

• Define need for premiums by region / value-added aluminum products.

• Expectations for new products and competitive outlook.

• Partner with Sales and the broader Marketing team to define and implement strategic partnerships for breakthrough technologies.

• Support current go to market strategies with current and future sustainability indicators that can maximize commercial value of the Alcoa product portfolio.

• Advise Sales and Marketing on customer sustainability success factors including technology, limitations, and targeted green content.

• Work in partnership with the Marketing team to further develop the Alcoa sustainable product portfolio, including new products.

• Build relationships with external analysts, trade associations and key customers to fine-tune market research. Build and maintain good internal working relationships with Alcoa Sales, Procurement, Supply Chain, Strategy, Operations, the Centers of Excellence (CoE) and External Affairs

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 5 years in the metals industry preferred and minimum 2 years' experience in market analysis functions preferred.

• Bachelor's degree required, MBA or master's degree preferred.

• Experience leading global projects and analysis (formally or informally)

• Experience in developing go to market strategies preferred.

• Experience in market intelligence, market research, consulting, or strategy

• Experience in quantitative as well as qualitative research approaches. Understanding of how to compile and analyze market intelligence and/or performance data.

• Strategic thinker, flexible problem solver, great listener, and team player

• Ability to effectively communicate complex, detailed commercial insights/data in a simplified, consistent, and actionable way to peers and leadership.

• Consistent track record to navigate and collaborate across functions, businesses, geographies, and subject areas.

• Strong presence along with communication and interpersonal skills, with the aim to build effective partnerships with key internal and external partners and an ability to present to executive-level audiences.

• Critical thinking experienced in using analytical skills to evaluate facts and data to form a sound judgment.

• A "roll up your sleeves" mentality with the ability to pivot easily between strategic and tactical.
