What are the responsibilities and job description for the QA Tech position at Alphia?
JOB PURPOSE: The Quality Tech is responsible for performing testing and release of all incoming materials, in-process samples, and finished products. The QA Tech also maintains lab equipment in good working condition.
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Oversee ingredient quality and final product quality
- Operate the mill lab during scheduled shift
- Provide accurate data for all quality audits
- Oversee all lab testing procedures
- Follow, implement, and oversee Good Manufacturing Policies for the Lab.
- Responsibility to identify and communicate food safety and/or product integrity issues to appropriate personnel.
- Provide documentation pertaining to quality assurance, food safety and nutrient analysis.
- Troubleshoot and advise on non-conforming ingredient and product issues
- Maintain the Laboratory Standard Operating Procedure Manual
- Provide customers with Certificate of Analysis documentation
- Report customer complaints
- Repair lab equipment as needed
- Document food safety, quality assurance, and maintenance issues
- Knowledge of loading and unloading trucks including weighing and sampling ingredients
- Become knowledgeable in Food Plant HACCP and Food Safety programs
- Assist with Regulatory Inspections
- Perform tests for mycotoxins in grains using quantitative methods
- Test meat meal products and food oils for rancidity
- Perform sieve tests
- Monitor ingredient and product specification sheets
- Become knowledgeable in NIR, LECO, SAF-Test equipment
- Assist, as needed, with feed mill production
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Quality Manager
- Be available to help in all divisions when asked upon by your department manager
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required).
- Education: High school diploma/GED required. Prefer a BS in Chemistry, Biology, Food or Animal Science.
- Experience: Prior experience in a Quality Assurance in food or feed related industry is a plus, but not required.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or other related software.
- Basic math skills
- Attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to receive and provide instructions in a positive manner.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
- Willing to work in a team environment and contribute to group goals
