Amazon Web Services (AWS) continues to expand its global presence and customer facing services and we are looking for a highly motivated Export Compliance Manager to manage our global dynamic export compliance program. As part of the AWS Global Export Compliance team, this role gets to build policies, processes and solutions for automated compliance, engage with engineering and development teams to proactively assess emerging technologies, determine export classifications of products, develop mechanisms and metrics to measure the effectiveness of the compliance program, manage export licensing, develop and deliver targeted compliance trainings, and drive project deliverables.
The successful candidate will help manage the export program for strategic internal business units and be an innovative compliance leader experienced in diving deep into complex technical areas and emerging technologies. A successful candidate will leverage strong subject matter expertise, in-depth knowledge of encryption regulations, dual-use export classification and licensing requirements, understanding of hardware and software development life cycles, and the global impact of the regulations on cloud-based solutions. Candidates should drive continuous process improvement, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to solve problems and develop requirements for new compliance solutions.
The candidate should be an innovative compliance professional experienced in building agile, cutting-edge programs. The role helps drive and scale the export compliance program through innovative process development. The candidate needs strong program/project management skills, must have a passion for new challenges, be creative, self-directed, and a great team player.
You will act as a leader who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of delivery. You can handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. You will be able to both think big and create simple solutions to meet your program goals.
Key job responsibilities
• Provide strategic export classification subject matter expertise on US and global export control classification regulations and advise internal business customers on compliance program
• Develop and maintain strategic export classification processes and solutions to manage AWS’ global classification program
• Engage development and engineering teams to assess and classify new technology products
• Execute export authorization assessments and obtain required Government licenses
• Drive innovative solution requirements to further enhance and automate compliance
• Implement US & Global export regulatory compliance programs and drive continuous improvements
• Monitor regulatory changes and assess impact
• Develop and manage metrics for management reporting
• Innovate control mechanisms to best meet business goals and compliance requirements
A day in the life
You will interact with Legal, Product Development teams, Trade Operations, HR, Engineering, Security, IT, and other internal businesses and external stakeholders to drive global export compliance.
In this role, the candidate will drive and scale the export compliance program through development of agile, effective and efficient processes that enable compliance in a dynamic, fast paced environment.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree required
- 6 years’ experience in export compliance in a global corporate environment
- 6 years of experience in US export regulations, with a focus on EAR
- 6 years of experience in export classification for hardware, software, technology with in-depth knowledge of encryption regulations.
- 6 years of experience working with engineering teams to determine export controls
- 6 years of experience using SNAP-R
- 4 years of experience managing an export classification program
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with export controls for intangibles, i.e. cloud based offerings and technology transfers
- Experience with non-US export regulations
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Able to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment
- Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role
- Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $210,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
