Basic Function:
Safely and effectively operate downstream equipment (including boxmakers, palletizers, robots and any other related machinery) in accordance with production requirements. The Operator will ensure efficient and effective operation of machinery in the area for a high quality finished product. Troubleshoot problems and clear jams to maintain operational efficiency and quality. Communicate clearly and effectively with coworkers to maintain production flow and respond to changes in production schedule.
Essential Function and Responsibilities:
- Load knockdown boxes and dividers into magazine of boxmaker.
- Set up and make adjustments to machine as required to accommodate product changes.
- Troubleshoot problems as they arise. Communicate machinery and equipment problems to supervisor and/or maintenance personnel accurately and in a timely manner.
- Complete preventive maintenance assignments on downstream machinery as directed.
- Locate and clear jams on floor and in the overhead conveyor lines.
- Communicate changes in the production schedule to coworkers (e.g. countdown and color changes).
- Perform quality control testing using appropriate measuring devices. Accurately identify quality issues and communicate quality problems/concerns to supervisor and/or appropriate quality personnel.
- Communicate machinery and equipment problems to Supervisor and Maintenance Personnel in a timely and accurate manner.
- Use computer system to produce scrap tickets and finished good tickets.
- Set up containers for tumble-pack stations (including appropriate ticketing) and monitor tumble-pack stations as required.
- Glue H-Dividers into boxes as necessary in accordance with customer requirements.
- Hand pack containers into cartons as required.
- Count and record corrugated scrap. Work with team to reduce scrap and resolve HFI issues as necessary.
- Operate all bulk and box palletizers (including MSK), pallet dispensers, banders, strappers and stretch wrappers.
- Operate conveyor controls for conveying systems.
- Learn and operate robot, casecreaser, lantech and related equipment.
- Make adjustments to the machine to accommodate product changes and communicate changes in production schedule to Operators/Technicians (e.g. countdowns, color changes, etc.).
- Understand operation of downstream equipment and troubleshoot problems as appropriate.
- Maintain a safe and clean work area in accordance with Company standards.
- Utilize Downstream Levels Program training documentation to attain skills needed to increase technical skill over time, and to complete cross training to at least 3 of five sets of equipment.
- Follow all GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) as documented in the policy.
- Follow all established safety rules and guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook, and as stated in the various safety-related training programs. Understand and communicate all hazards and safety issues to the appropriate personnel. Properly use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- May perform other related assignments at the direction of supervision.
Reporting Relationship: This position reports directly to the shift Production Supervisor.
Education/Experience

Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Interpersonal Skills: Good written and verbal communications skills are required. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. Incumbent must possess effective teamwork and interpersonal skills.
Technical Skills: Incumbent must be capable of learning and successfully applying SAP system, CDM Apriso and Customer Profiles. Must be able to quickly grasp operation of downstream equipment and possess the ability to troubleshoot problems on such equipment. Must be able to successfully complete levels program as specified by the Company.
Other: Incumbent must possess a high degree of attention to detail and to production flow. Must be capable of working safely and effectively in a fast-paced, high-quality manufacturing environment. Incumbent must have the ability to interpret and carry out instructions, including Work Instructions, Master Process Book and SOP’s. Must be able to provide a tool box and basic tools. Must be able to work a 12-hour shift schedule. Incumbent must be willing to demonstrate schedule flexibility as business needs require as well as for coverage for vacations and other absences.
Physical: Must be capable of standing and walking on production floor for length of production shift. Will be required to lift/carry up to 60 lbs. occasionally. Must occasionally squat, bend, kneel, reach, etc., in order to carry out essential functions of the position.
