Job Description
The Graphics Manager is responsible to direct and manage the work activities of the Graphics and Pre-Press Departments so that all package designs are translated accurately to print and meet the customer’s expectation and production’s needs.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO
Responsible for implementing processes and developing appropriate communication for improving the overall customer and internal manufacturing plant experience.
Directs the work of graphics and prepress department. Is responsible for all elements of management including hiring, terminations, recognition, discipline, training, employee relations, performance management and salary administration.
Assign and direct work to meet production schedules, maintain quality standards and assure an equal workload, to the extent possible, among the employees.
Facilitates & coordinates standard graphics procedures to promote a high level of work quality.
Schedules regular training opportunities for graphics personnel in order to increase efficiencies, improve processes, enhance knowledge and sharpen production skills.
Communicates clearly and regularly with Graphics, Press and Production personnel in regards to the status of current jobs and any outstanding graphic concerns. Assists in establishing production schedule
Maintains accurate and timely department records that provide valuable documentation and assist in analyzing production trends.
Researches and recommends products and/or technologies that will improve graphic and print services.
Provides individual technical expertise on rotogravure and flexo printing processes within Bemis and Customer Marketing, Sales, Graphics and Management personnel.
Analyzes print problems with Production Management and assists in determining corrective actions.
Represents Graphics Production in study teams, customer meetings and/or training sessions with internal or external customers.
Understands the internal graphics costing system; calculates and provides cost estimates on all new designs to Sales, Marketing, Customer Service and the Customer as required. Reviews and approves all invoicing from external suppliers.
Responsible for all facets of plate and specific systems (SOC) management, including activities for sticky back, anilox and anilox cleaner, cylinders and gears, plate tracking, the plate cleaner and ordering of MOM plates.
Develop cost savings initiatives / plans as related to materials, methods and equipment. Develops pro-active relationships with key vendors in order to develop technological improvements as they relate to advancements of our business.
Designee to coordinate press approval efforts between customers, customer service and production to attain acceptable print material, on an as-needed basis. Responsible for pre-press activities in press trials, for such items as twin lock, plate material and sticky back. Trouble shoots all print related problems.
Provides direction and procedures to company personnel in regulatory interpretation through the corporate regulatory group. Participates in bi-yearly Capture & Destruction Efficiency Testing.
Cross trains and acts as back-up for the Graphics Coordinator.
Day-to-day responsibility for the PRI system, parts washing system, bulk solvent, x-rite upkeep and all hazardous waste management.
Ensures that accurate Standard Operating Conditions (SOC’s) are in place and followed. Maintains productivity standards based on SOC’s, best practices and continuous improvement.
Manage production workflow to insure delivery dates are met.
Collaborates with fellow managers in a team environment, meeting workflow challenges and to implement process improvements
Execute human capital processes including goal setting, performance reviews, human capital planning, and career development for all direct reports to drive effectiveness and efficiency on the production graphics team.
Coaches employees as needed with the goal of enabling the employee to identify and handle complex or out of policy technical problems.
Identifies critical process weak-points and works with management team to make improvements.
Works closely with cross-functional teams to determine current/future state while challenging the organization to adopt to a more efficient standardized model and to ensure flawless execution of initiatives.
Plans and executes hiring and training needs.
Monitors process metrics to measure and manage safety, quality, and service effectiveness.
Proactive recommendations on business process improvements and operational improvements relative to VOC.
Development of a high-performance team to deliver expectations and strategies for graphics operations functions.
Leadership in collaboration with other functional teams.
Development of quality and service procedures, policies and standards.

10 years experience in related graphics pre-press
