Position Summary
The Dean of Students works closely with teachers, parents, students, the administrative team, and other school personnel to build and maintain a positive and safe school environment. This is a 12-month administrative position.
Major Responsibilities
Relationships are the foundation of classroom and school life and underpin teaching, learning, and prosocial development. Building relationships and fostering students' sense of community are a critical part of our work at APS and as such, we have partnered with the Collaborative Classroom to implement the Caring School Community Model in all of our schools.
Caring School Community model builds positive classroom and schoolwide communities while developing students' social and emotional learning (SEL) skills and competencies. It is designed to help students become caring, responsible members of their school communities and, ultimately, to grow into humane, principled, and skilled citizens of a democratic society. The lessons in the program help faculty and staff create a warm, safe, and disciplined school environment where all community members can develop the skills and dispositions they need to interact constructively with others.

Position Summary

Major Responsibilities
- Foster a climate of high expectations by embodying and institutionalizing American Paradigm School's vision for school culture and the Code of Conduct
- Remain fair, decisive, professional, calm and supportive of whole-child development
- Determine and issue consequences for student infractions
- Report and track daily attendance in an organized and professional manner
- Interview and work with students, parents, and staff to take necessary action in cases of truancy, delinquency, and/or discipline concerns
- Manage and uphold school behavioral expectations
- Serve as a resource to staff regarding student management issues
- Openly and regularly communicate with staff and parents/guardians regarding student behavior
- Compile, analyze, and share student discipline data regularly, and use that data to make decisions
- Support cafeteria moderators in maintaining well-organized and well-run lunch periods
- Be highly visible to students and foster positive, supportive relationships with them
- Lead restorative disciplinary programs after school and on some Saturdays
- Knowledge of urban environments and schools
- Prior experience counseling students
- Experience in mental health services with young children

- Three years' experience working with urban students in an educational setting
