WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE JOB:
The American Red Cross is looking to set up a User Experience team to drive UX design for all technology projects and initiatives. We are looking for a seasoned UX leader to set up and drive this function for the American Red Cross.
This is a great opportunity for someone to set up the function from scratch, including hiring the UX team, setting up processes, etc. Most importantly, this role provides the opportunity for a seasoned expert to help build meaningful and engaging digital products that help people in need.
The Sr Director, User Experience Design will be responsible for overseeing and enhancing the overall user experience across all digital platforms and products. This strategic role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop and execute a comprehensive UX strategy that aligns with the company's business goals.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in user-centered design, and a proven ability to lead and inspire a team of UX professionals. Initially it's expected that this role will spend around 40% of his/her time helping with hands-on delivery of UX artifacts and the remaining time providing leadership coverage.

The work location for this exciting opportunity is virtual. The selected candidate will work 100% remotely from home and can be located anywhere in the United States with a preference to work East Coast hours.

Leadership and Strategy:
Develop and articulate a clear UX vision and strategy that aligns with the company's overall objectives.
Lead and mentor a team of UX designers, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
Collaborate with key stakeholders, including business owners, developers, product managers, technologists, and project managers, to ensure seamless integration of user experience principles throughout the digital product development lifecycle.
User Research and Analysis:
Conduct user research to gain insights into user behaviors, needs, and preferences.
Analyze data and feedback to identify opportunities for improving the user experience and inform design decisions.
UX Design, Prototyping and visual design:
Drive the creation of user personas, journey maps, and wireframes to guide the design process.
Ensure consistency in design elements and interactions across all digital platforms.
Oversee the development of high-fidelity prototypes for user testing and stakeholder review.
Maintain the American Red Cross design system with a library of reusable components (based on the ARC brand guidelines)
Drive the process of creating visual treatments for finalized wireframes.
Usability Testing and Iteration:
Implement and lead usability testing programs to gather feedback and validate design decisions.
Collaborate with the development team to iterate on designs based on user feedback and testing results.
Stay Abreast of Industry Trends:
Keep up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in UX design.
Provide recommendations for incorporating new technologies and methodologies to enhance the user experience.
Scope: people manager that interprets and administers policies, process, and procedures that may affect sections and subordinate units.
Qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. The American Red Cross does not sponsor employment visas.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (required/minimum qualifications):
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, or a related field.
* Work experience: At least 10 years of experience with at least 7 years of experience in UX design
* Management experience: at least 7 years with 3 years in a leadership role within UX design
* Strong portfolio showcasing successful UX design projects and measurable impact on user satisfaction.
* Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, or Figma.
* The ideal candidate will have intellectual curiosity, will take charge, apply industry best practices, and drive positive business outcomes
* Constantly willing to push boundaries and overcome obstacles
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present and justify design decisions to stakeholders.
* Strong ability to present and engage with executives
Travel: Travel may be required
PAY INFORMATION:The starting annual salary range for this position is $175K - $210K. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role.Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed.
