Since 1982, Gallatin Valley Food Bank’s (GVFB) mission has been to improve food security throughout Southwestern Montana. Their vision is to create a healthier, more resilient, food-secure community in which everyone has the means to nourish themselves The HRDC Summer Lunch Program is a rewarding opportunity that involves preparing meals for summer meal sites, delivering/serving and supervising meals at site locations, and supporting volunteers in a variety of tasks. This is a fast-paced and fun team environment that involves time on your feet. Summer associates work alongside volunteers, interns, and staff in a kitchen environment as well as outdoors for meal service. Summer Lunch provides nutritionally- balanced meals to local children during the summer months at 7 meal sites across the valley. Serving approximately 400-500 children per day. Gain Skills and Knowledge in: Volunteer organizing and management, food production, meal service, social services in the Gallatin Valley (all of HRDC programs), food rescue, federal meal programs, local food, youth programming, and community stewardship. Also includes lunch on days worked. Montana Campus Compact (MTCC) serves as the intermediary for this project. MTCC is a CEO-led coalition of colleges and universities that support civic engagement, service learning, and volunteerism across the state. Every year we place cohorts of full-time, part-time, and summer AmeriCorps members with schools, colleges, nonprofits, and government agencies in Montana. The AmeriCorps projects we facilitate increase educational equity, break down barriers between higher education and community organizations, and address the root causes of poverty in communities across the state.

Member Duties : In this position, you will assist in all aspects of food production from preparation and food safety to portioning and packing. You will also support distribution and operation of meal sites at various locations in the Gallatin Valley.
