What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hand Up Crew Leader position at Amos House?
Program Description: “A Hand-Up” is an opportunity for a paid days’ work and aiming to increase access to services and resources for individuals whom are unhoused, unemployed and/or panhandling. Recruited individuals work as a part of a clean-up crew on city identified projects and properties and are paid at the end of each day. Case management and employment support are offered to participants, with the goal of connecting them to stable housing, job opportunities, training, recovery supports, and other services.
Position Summary: The Hand Up Crew leader is responsible for the supervision and transportation of a crew (maximum approximately 20 People) tasked with trash and debris removal, light landscaping and general area clean up of a weekly rotation of locations. Tasks include: transporting crew members to all assigned locations, as well as assisting crew with light landscaping, litter pick up, and trash removal.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate logistical aspects of Hand Up Projects- conducting site assessment to determine amount of time needed, crew capacity and supply list.
- Provide direct supervision to Hand Up crew, organizing and assembling the 12-20-person group, providing technical assistance on site, and ensuring safe and timely execution of weekly projects.
- Assist with daily Hand Up Crew “orientation” explaining scope of weekly projects, crew expectations, and other important information regarding logistics, health, and safety.
- Transport Hand Up Crew to and from work sites and for scheduled lunch break times.
- Maintain and update weekly project list/ schedule to ensure continuity in work flow.
- Report project progress and completions on a regular basis to identified stakeholders/contacts, including Hand Up Coordinator and City of Providence.
- Record and report quantity and locations of trash bags on a weekly basis to A Hand Up Coordinator to ensure timely pick up by Department of Public Works.
- Work together with Hand Up Coordinator and other assisting staff to create and maintain an organized inventory of materials and supplies, purchasing additional supplies as needed.
- Ensure collection of daily crew attendance.
- Maintain valid license and insurance
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s License and insurance Required.
- Ability to work with diverse populations.
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Landscaping experience preferred.
- Must be drug free
- Must be willing to work in all kinds of weathers/seasons
