Education And/or Experience
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing as Registered Nurse
Active State of Iowa (or compact agreement) nursing license
Master's degree upon hire or satisfied completion within twenty four (24) months of hire and/or experience in managing multiple areas of focus simultaneously.
Minimum three (3) years of experience in the assigned clinical area
Previous experience in managing eight (8) or more professional employees required
Active participation in organized shared governance structure
Certificates, Licensure, Registrations
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Iowa (or equivalent compact agreement)
Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon completion of orientation
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required upon completion of orientation
Interdepartmental certification required within six months of position acceptance including one or more of the following; TNCC, NIMS, CCRN, MEDSURG-BC, CNOR, CAPA, CPAN, BCEN, RNC-OB or comparable certification.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Manages all aspects of department operations effectively and efficiently.
- Utilizes the nursing process, for the performance of patient care, to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient care to achieve prioritized patient outcomes according to the RN scope of practice.
- Collaborates with healthcare providers to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care.
- Performs emergency treatment as required in accordance with RN scope of practice.
- Promotes and ensures patient and staff safety in all aspects of responsibilities.
- Manages and performs employee relations functions effectively to promote a positive work environment, influence retention and enhance communication.
- Recruits and develops a qualified and productive workforce.
- Manage departmental financial operations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
