SUMMARY OF DUTIES :
This position ensures our coach and sleeping car passengers' safe, comfortable, and pleasant journeys. The Auto Train Attendant can work as a Coach, Sleeping Car, Lead Service Attendant, or Chef / Food Specialist.
- Coach Attendants will be required to keep assigned coaches clean for the duration of the trip, including maintenance of all restrooms.
- Sleeping Car Attendants will be required to offer passengers all first-class amenities, make beds, change linen, and keep the restroom and shower area clean and sanitary for the duration of the trip.
- A Chef or Food Specialist is responsible for using their culinary expertise to create appetizing dishes for diners to enjoy.
Their duties include overseeing kitchen staff, monitoring onboard stock, placing orders, and restocking food items and produce as needed.
- Lead Service Attendant sleeper lounge / cross country café is responsible for maintaining stock and company funds, selling, and serving company menu items, and maintaining a safe environment for passengers and fellow crew members.
- Lead Service Attendant diner acts as Employee in Charge. They are responsible for maintaining stock and company funds and overseeing the servers and chefs during meal services.
Ensure the crew maintains a high vigilance regarding safety protocols, public health, and FDA regulations. Supervise crew members regarding the completion of assigned duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- This position will be responsible for performing dining car service and side work as directed by the on-board supervisor.
- Must follow all safety guidelines described in Amtrak’s Service standards manual.
- Must follow all FDA and Public health standards.
- Must have a full understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Must be available to work flexible schedules that include weekends and holidays.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- Food and beverage handling experience.
- Cash handling and customer contact experience.
- Experience in housekeeping.
- Must be at least 21 years of age upon completion of classroom training (due to service of alcoholic beverages). Successfully complete a customer service aptitude testing instrument.
- Successfully complete drug screening and pre-employment medical exam. Must be able to lift heavy items. Must be able to work while standing for long periods of time.
- Demonstrate a friendly, outgoing, and courteous disposition.
- Must wear company-provided uniform, comply with company grooming policies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Some college, food service industry or transportation-related training.
COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS :
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES :
The hourly rate is $21.00 during triaining. $22.81 after traning is completed (with opportunity for increases, as per the applicable collective bargaining agreement, after beginning employment).
