Summary
The position is responsible for supervising day-to-day shift operations of the Sanitation department. Duties include training and supervision of sanitation personnel, shift scheduling, and control over labor to ensure proper sanitation of all equipment, plant, and grounds.
Team leaders must maintain a positive work environment and ensure compliance with food safety and employee safety standards.
The Team Leader must also be able to work with limited direct supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Safety
- Monitors employee safety practices. When deficiencies are observed, coaches individuals and reports them to the Supervisor or manager and completes work orders if equipment needs to be repaired
- Train sanitation personnel in use of PPE’s and Job Hazard Analysis.
- Assist with chemical safety training to all members on their crew
- Ensures that the team completes their weekly tailgate meetings. Helps conduct safety training sessions as needed or required.
- Ensures that subordinates are doing their exercises before each shift and follows up with those that are not.
- Enforces the company safety policies and communicates the safety practices of employees, . lock out tag out, safe lifting, safe use and handling of chemicals, maintain organized work areas.
Leadership
- Provides guidance to their assistant team leaders for each day’s activities.
- Seeks to resolve issues (personnel, mechanical, quality, safety, GMP, directly with department leaders, employees, and other departments.
When appropriate, escalates issue to the Sanitation Supervisor or Manager, offering solutions on how to resolve the issue.
- Reviews all of the department paperwork (Daily Sanitation Document Control, Master Sanitation Program, Training, Absenteeism, Performance Reviews) and takes immediate actions to make corrections if needed
- Conducts random, unannounced inspections on equipment that has been cleaned
- Communicates with leaders of other departments to resolve issues or conflicts in a timely manner to minimize production and sanitation downtime.
- When there is need for supplies, communicates with Sanitation Supervisor or Manager before items run out, ., PPE’s, brushes, baling wire, etc.
- Coaches sanitors on GMP’s, proper cleaning practices, and company rules.
- Participates in spot inspections of employees cleaning practices
- Coordinates with Production and Kitchen team leaders and / or supervisors when something needs to be cleaned and / or sanitized.
Provides good communication of when items will be ready.
- Attends meetings as directed by Sanitation Supervisor or Manager
- Motivates, leads, and coaches employees to meet sanitation standards and department goals.
- Addresses non compliance issues with Sanitation leaders and sanitors on a timely basis as well as recognizes individuals or groups for continuous improvements
- Ensures the production / packaging lines are clean to ensure an on time start up.
- Seek continuous learning - Attends educational classes and seminars for self improvement / supervisory & leadership skills, technical skills, language (if needed)
- Performs other tasks as assigned by the Supervisor
Planning
- Optimizes the workload for maximum efficiencies while minimizing contaminations and downtime of Kitchen or Production process.
- Reviews the production schedule regularly to determine needs for shift change.
Reporting
- Assists the sanitors by ensuring that all shift paperwork is properly completed and turned in on time
- Ensures that all leaders and sanitors are properly trained on safety, GMP’s and SSOP’s and that this training is documented.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises assistant team leaders and employees working in their area and shift.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
SKILLS
- Assist department leaders in the writing up SSOP’s, and training manuals along with developing forms ability to use Microsoft Office applications
- Capable of operating all CIP systems in the facility along with teaching these systems to other sanitors
- Knows the SSOP and safety of the majority of equipment used in Production, Packaging and Kitchen.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to apply basic math calculations . addition, subtraction and percentages.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with multiple situations in a timely manner.
- The ability to function with a diverse group of individuals and resolve issues in an effective manner.
- The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
