The annual base salary range for this position in California is $144,880 to $177,076 per year. The starting pay for the successful candidate depends on various job-related factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, education/training, internal value, peer equity, external market demands, and organizational considerations.
The Senior Compensation Analyst analyzes, designs, and administers compensation programs to ensure our pay structure is competitive and aligned with business objectives. This role oversees all aspects of compensation management, including bonus planning, merit planning, and day-to-day compensation activities within our Workday system. Elevated expertise in compensation analysis, market research, and data-driven decision-making is essential to support our overall compensation strategy and ensure competitive and equitable pay practices. The ideal candidate has advanced Excel skills and extensive experience in job description writing and data analysis.
Responsibilities
  • Analyze and evaluate compensation data to ensure the compensation structure is competitive and aligned with industry standards
  • Develop and implement compensation programs, policies, and procedures that align with the company's goals and objectives
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations related to compensation practices 
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for compensation within the Workday system, ensuring accurate and efficient configuration and maintenance of compensation-related data
  • Oversee day-to-day compensation activities, including job evaluations, salary adjustments, promotions, and other compensation changes, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations
  • Provide guidance and support on compensation-related issues, including job evaluation, FLSA classification, and market pricing for both full-time/part-time and exempt/non-exempt employees
  • Generate and analyze compensation reports from Workday to provide insights and recommendations to HR leadership and business partners
  • Collaborate with HR Business Partners and Talent Acquisition to ensure job descriptions are accurate, up-to-date, and in compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations
  • Collaborate with HR Business Partners to ensure effective communication and implementation of compensation programs and policies
  • Manage the annual merit process, including data analysis, communication, and reporting
  • Develop and deliver communications and training materials to educate managers and employees on the merit planning process and guidelines
  • Design and implement the annual bonus programs, including developing eligibility criteria, performance measures, and payout structures
  • Partner with Finance and HR teams to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of bonus calculations and payouts
  • Conduct in-depth data analysis to evaluate the effectiveness and competitiveness of compensation programs and practices
  • Audit and recommend changes to salary structures and position classifications
  • Observe jobs and interview employees to determine job and worker requirements
  • Conduct research and analysis on compensation trends and practices to provide recommendations for the organization's compensation strategy
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to communicate findings, trends, and recommendations to senior management
  • Stay updated on emerging best practices in compensation and share knowledge with the HR team to drive continuous improvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; advanced degree or certification (e.g., CCP, GRP) is a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in compensation analysis, including bonus planning, merit planning, and compensation management
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable labor laws and regulations related to compensation
  • Solid knowledge of compensation principles, including market pricing, job evaluation, and salary structures
  • Able to maintain the highest level of discretion with confidential and sensitive information
  • Elevated attention to detail 
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Advanced Excel skills, including experience with pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and macros
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to gather, interpret, and present complex data effectively
  • Proficiency in utilizing compensation tools and systems, particularly Workday
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
