We have an exciting opportunity and are seeking an experienced Paralegal professional's familiar Appellate (Appeals) law process and procedures (Part-time) for our customer located in the Chicago Downtown area. Must be fully vaccinated and this is a in office position.
Job Description:
- Drafting various routine legal documents, including appearances, docketing statements, certificates of service and notices of filing, routine motions (such as motions for extensions of time), requests for preparation of record on appeal, requests to supplement the record, letters to court personnel to transcribe court proceedings for inclusion in the record on appeal.
- Formatting and finalizing legal briefs for filing in state and federal trial and appellate courts. This includes creating tables of points & authorities, creating an index of appellate record, creating a table of contents, plus formatting legal briefs to comply with state and federal filings requirements (e.g., appropriate color of brief covers, numbering of pages, formatting page margins).
- Performing court filings in state and federal courts, including Cook County, the Northern District of Illinois, the Illinois Appellate Court, the Illinois Supreme Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. This requires familiarity with e-filing procedures that differ from court-to-court.
- Handling telephone inquiries with state and federal appellate courts on procedural, technological, scheduling and other matters.
- Proof-reading draft motions and briefs.
- Being responsible for maintaining a filing system and archives of litigation matters
