General Manager: Ancora Café Bakery (Downtown)
We are seeking a self-starting, restaurant industry professional to fill the General Manager position at our bustling Downtown location! As the General Manager, you will be responsible and accountable for all day-to-day operations of our Downtown location, delivering financial results that meet or exceed set goals, and leading a happy, productive team in line with Ancora’s standards and values. This position reports directly to the Director of Operations.
We are a well established, women-owned and operated, Madison café that expanded our operations in 2017 to include a full service kitchen. We specialize in all things brunch and are open 7 days per week. We take great pride in our business and the relationships we have built with our customers and staff over the years. Our customers have come to expect speedy, consistent, and delicious products from us, and that is what we always aim to deliver. Our staff is tight knit, who treat each other with respect and kindness. We have NO tolerance for bullying or any form of abuse.
Team
- Leads as an example on the floor, and sets the tone for the cafe’s attitude in keeping with the company culture
- Oversees all scheduling
- Responsible for recruiting, interviewing, hiring, firing, disciplining, training, development of all team members
- Holds quarterly staff meetings (or more frequent by department if needed)
- Facilitates a high-level of training for newly hired staff consistently works with current team members on professional development and continuous improvement
Financials
- Handles all deposits and ensures proper cash handling is being followed
- Tracks sales patterns and orders appropriately
- Drives sales through keeping an eye on customer trends, keeping a pulse on customer satisfaction, and finding unique strategies to increase sales
- Constantly monitors COGS/labor to be most efficiently used
- Responsible for processing, filing, and submitting weekly invoices
Workflow
- Manages all customer relations donation requests
- Handles all vendor service contracts
- Sends content to owner for social media
- Knowledgeable in Toast POS and can edit/add when needed
- Responsible for rolling out new initiatives smoothly with a positive, upbeat attitude
- Responsible for being expert-level knowledgeable about our product disbursing that information as required to customers staff
- Maintains positive relationships with downtown community members
Quality Standards
- Maintains a high level of hospitality and customer service throughout the cafe
- Floats the floor, helping out as needed on any given day to ensure product is getting out the door as quickly and well made as possible
- Maintains aesthetic of the cafe
- Manages all maintenance cleaning schedules
- Deals with all guest concerns in a professional, positive fashion resolves any issues quickly
- Responsible for conducting twice monthly mock health inspections
- Knowledgeable about maintains food safety standards to the highest level at all times
Skills
- Ability to work on your feet for eight hours a day
- Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds at a time on a regular basis
- 2 year previous coffee/cafe experience preferred
- 1 year previous management experience preferred
- High level of professionalism and respect for teammates and customers
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Outstanding customer service skills
- Cleanliness and proper knowledge of food safety is key
- Excellent verbal communication and organization skills
Job Type: Full-time (40-45 hrs) - 2 days off per week
Compensation
- $45,000-$55,000 DOE participation in a tip pool for floor hours (~$9-10/hour) 5% profit sharing
