Certified Procedural Coder for Chronic Pain Procedures

Essential Job Functions

  • Verifies and corrects when necessary, all CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS and ASA codes on all records
  • Responds to coding specific questions for patient and insurance phone inquiries
  • Conducts additional research for any claims in question regarding specific code assigned
  • Participates in educational activities and attends regular staff meetings
  • Additional duties and projects as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent working knowledge of medical billing and insurance practices, diagnostic and procedural coding, and compliance regulations
  • Basic knowledge of all Microsoft Office and practice management system applications
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians and employees
  • Ability to pay attention to details, work independently, prioritize responsibilities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain neutrality and confidentiality

Education Requirements

  • Medical terminology
  • CPC, CANPC certifications and meet annual CEU requirements for certification renewal
  • High School Diploma required, associate’s degree in business or a related field preferred

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in certified procedural coding with a focus on Anesthesia and Chronic Pain
  • Additional CANPC certification is a plus.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time
  • Ability to maintain continuous keyboard usage
  • Ability to bend, squat, stoop or reach to access paperwork in filing cabinets of different heights
  • Ability of manual dexterity for office machine operation including but not limited to: computer, telephone, electronic calculator, copy machine, facsimile and printers
