JOB SUMMARY:
The Resident Aide performs routine services for residents of the facility including assistance with bathing and hair care, ambulation, and management of personal belongings. The Resident Aide is responsible for general cleaning and maintenance of residents’ rooms and may perform additional duties as needed. Aides also follow a mandatory state-driven training and continuing education program.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
· Responsible to: The Resident Aide reports to the nurse on site or on call.
· Workers Supervised: The Resident Aide does not supervise others.
· Interrelationships: The Resident Aide regularly interacts with residents and works cooperatively with all staff of the facility. Additionally, Resident Aides may work with families and outside providers.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES:
· The Resident Aide is responsible in assisting residents with activities of daily living, personal hygiene, dressing, ambulating, and participating in facility and/or community activities.
· The following duties are performed by this position:
o Assists residents with bathing, hair care, oral care, and nail care.
o Assists residents with dressing including, including care of clothing and personal items.
o Assists residents in maintaining a clean and neat personal space.
o Assists residents with ambulation, including reminding and supporting.
o Assists and encourages residents to eat and take sufficient fluids.
o Assists residents with toileting and personal hygiene, including monitoring for incontinence.
o Observes and reports resident behavior and condition changes including weight change and signs of injury Nurses.
o Takes and records vital signs, weight, and height as assigned by the Nurse.
o Participates in or leads programs of activity for residents such as games, music, and entertainment.
o Documents daily care records as instructed.
o If certified as a Certified Nursing Aide (CNA), Resident Aide may use mechanical lifts and feed residents in the dining assistance program.
o May assist with medication administration, or authorized medication management after becoming certified as an Unlicensed Medication Aide.
o Performs related duties as necessary.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Sit and walk for up to four hours.
· Walk three to four hours.
· Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds.
· Occasional bending and twisting at waist.
· Occasional reaching above or below shoulder heights, e.g. charts or supplies on upper shelves and lower drawers in medication cart.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
· Subject to frequent interruptions.
· Subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents.
Must attend and participate in in-house education programs.
