What we are seeking

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for managing the Human Resources Department for 250 hybrid workplace employees with physical offices in Portland, Seattle, and San Francisco. This position is responsible for directing the recruitment, selection, and onboarding process; administration of benefits; providing guidance and employee relations expertise to management and staff; and building strong relationships internally and externally while advancing an organizational culture that understands and prioritizes best practices in DEI. This position offers workplace flexibility and requires a commitment of 3-4 days in the Portland office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and implement strategies that strengthen and enhance talent development practices, leadership development, culture, and employee engagement. Lead the organization's employee engagement and action planning process to increase performance and retention.
  • Influence organizational decision-making with metrics, analysis, reports, and an equity lens that aligns with and supports Ankrom Moisan's strategic objectives.
  • Recommend and implement employee recognition and wellness programs.
  • Ensure training programs are in place to execute the organization's strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Coordinate and oversee benefits with Finance.
  • Advise management regarding employee-related issues. Train managers on Human Resource policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Manage the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, particularly for managerial, exempt, and professional roles; collaborates with departmental leaders to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Oversee the Human Resources orientation and onboarding for new employees.
  • Oversee the implementation of leaves, accommodations, workers' compensation policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure complete and accurate job descriptions for employees.
  • Oversee HRIS reports and maintenance of employee personnel files and tracking of employee data in HRIS; use data to drive workforce recommendations and decision making.
  • Ensure supervisees are meeting productivity, quality, and customer service standards; document, address, and resolve issues.
  • Assist direct reports regarding work issues including establishing clear expectations for performance and training.
  • Provide support and attention to employee development and proactively address performance issues.
  • Provide regular supervision to staff (minimally once a month). Complete performance reviews on time and accurately. Review and approve timesheets of direct reports.
  • Oversee and ensure Human Resources budget targets are met and manage costs.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization's human resource and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure equitable employee access to professional development opportunities and training.
  • Oversee the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; and training and development.
  • Provide support and guidance to Human Resources Department, management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
  • Analyze trends in compensation and benefits; research and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
  • Develop and manage learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees, with emphasis on BIPOC inclusion.
  • Oversee employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in Human Resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Research, develop, recommend, and execute creative strategies to foster the organization's DEI goals
  • Administer group benefits.
  • Manage incidents/accidents, workers comp claims, and annual OSHA reporting.
  • Serve as 401(k) plan administrator.
  • Manage Human Resources Department and front office staff.
  • Provide facilities management which covers, but is not limited to, office occupancy, maintenance and furniture; people, and organization, such as catering, and events.

  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and make informed decisions that comply with policy and procedure.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail and to delegate when appropriate.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite or related software.


Requirements

  • Strong background of education and experience working with and coaching others in, principles and practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Experience working within an HR context that emphasizes and prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the organization
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • At least 5-7 years minimum of managerial Human Resources experience
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP
  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
  • Experience managing Human Resource functions in California
  • Experience managing the Human Resources function in real estate, architecture, and/or construction

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • The office is a fast-paced, business casual environment
  • The majority of employee work locations are flexible with personal commitments of 0 -5 days per week in one of the offices
  • This position may require travel between office locations
