The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International (www.apcointl.org) is seeking an individual for the position of EMD Manager.  APCO International’s Headquarters office is located in Daytona Beach, Florida with executive offices located in Alexandria, Virginia. This position will report to the APCO IntelliComm™ Project Manager working from the Daytona Beach office.

The Position: 

The EMD Managers’ primary responsibility is to provide management oversight for the APCO Emergency Medical Dispatch Program 
 

Essential Duties: 
  • Provide management oversight for the APCO EMD Program and work with APCO Institute staff to ensure all EMD course materials remain updated and compliant with national standards (NHTSA, ASTM & AHA) 
  •  Manage contract, invoicing, and payment tasks for the APCO EMD medical director. 
  • Foster and maintain a good working relationship with the APCO EMD medical director. 
  •  Provide assistance as needed to APCO IntelliComm® staff. 
  •  Perform investigation and auditing duties to ensure agencies using APCO’s EMD Program are in compliance. 
  •  Serve as a member of APCO Institute EMD curriculum workgroups. 
  •   Assist in the writing or rewriting of course manuals and materials following the APCO Institute curriculum. 
  •   Serve as an adjunct instructor for APCO’s EMD courses, as needed. 
  •   Complete special projects as directed by the APCO Institute Director 
  •   Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. 
 
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Strong organizational and time management skills 
  • Ability to foster teamwork and motivate others to work productively together. 
  • Ability to deal fairly and consistently with subordinates. 
  • Microsoft Tools— Intermediate level working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.  
  • RM Software — Ability to learn and use Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software (i.e., Salesforce). 
  • English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. 
  • Reading Comprehension — Capable of understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Speaking — Capable of talking to others to convey information effectively. 
  • Oral Comprehension — Posses the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Physical Ability – Ability to travel by vehicle or aircraft for meetings, training, and presentations. 

The successful candidate will need: 

  • Effective communication; ability to be clear and concise in all communication.
  • Ability to work effectively within a group.
  • Possesses a keen attention to technical accuracy, timeliness, quality, and operational efficiency. 
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and strategically when solving problems. 

Minimum requirements include: 

  • Baccalaureate degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the fields of EMD and emergency medical services.
  • Current state or national certification as an EMT-Intermediate or EMT-Advanced. 

Preferred Skills and Abilities
APCO will give preference to candidates possessing the following attributes:

  • Experience within a Public Safety Communications Center as an emergency medical dispatcher.  
  • Experience as an instructor or trainer in an emergency communications center

 

Salary : $55,000 - $65,000
