Appointment Type: 1) Exempt, full-time position, 40 hours a week, plus some weekend and
after hours meetings. Hourly wage: $70,000 to $80,000 DOE; Benefits if full-time: health

Background: API Legal Outreach is the largest social justice legal organization serving the
Asian, Pacific Islander, and Latino communities of the Greater Bay Area and Central Valley.
Founded in 1975, our mission is to provide culturally competent and linguistically appropriate
legal representation, social services, and advocacy for the most marginalized segments of the
community including low-income women, seniors, recent immigrants, and youth. With offices in
Oakland, Stockton, and San Francisco, our work is focused in the areas of domestic
violence/family law, immigration and immigrant rights, senior law and elder abuse prevention,
the rights of those with disabilities, anti-human trafficking, youth violence prevention, affordable
housing preservation and tenants' rights, and other social justice issues.
Duties & Responsibilities: This position will be based in San Francisco but may also work at
East Bay Office as needed. This position ensure employees receive the proper compensation
and benefits, oversee workplace safety, direct the maintenance of employee records, and manage
overall employee hiring, evaluation and labor relations. They also develop, implement and
oversee training programs or procedures. HR managers must stay up-to-date with policies that
govern employee rights, such as equal opportunity employment and sexual harassment. These
professionals work full-time in an office setting, although travel might be required for meetings
or recruiting events.
reviewing staff job contributions; maintaining compensation; determining production,
productivity, quality, and customer-service strategies; designing systems; accumulating
resources; resolving problems; implementing change.
Minimum Qualifications, knowledge, abilities, skills and experience
1. At least a bachelor's degree; degrees in human resources management, business
administration or a related field.
2. Five years of experience as a manager and supervisorial skill set. Certification is available but
it is voluntary.
3. Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal relations skills.
4. Knowledge and firm grasp of employee and labor laws.
5. Be able to provide a stated business plan to develop staff for the needs of the business.
6. Strong understanding of job classifications and exempt v. non-exempt status etc.
7. Experience investigating and responding to Title VII charges.
8. Knowledge and experience working in a union environment and NLRB laws and procedures.
9. Strong interpersonal, decision-making organization, leadership and speaking skills, ability to
use human resource management software.
