This position is part of our Antaya Technologies business unit within Aptiv's Connection Systems segment in Warwick, RI. The Connection Systems (CS) segment of Aptiv is a global business with over 20,000 employees and present in 5 continents. Summary:
This position is responsible for coordination between Application Engineering and external/internal suppliers for the fabrication, construction, testing of equipment used in house and at customer facilities. Additional responsibilities for this position will include the execution of laboratory tests, research, and development of new process equipment concepts. The R&D Laboratory Engineer will also support the Engineering Department with electrical testing and research related to existing programs, or new programs that require validation. Additional support is required on an as needed basis to trouble shoot and repair manufacturing equipment.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Design and perform tests on terminals and wire assemblies to ensure compliance with various standards.
- Perform engineering tasks utilizing software used for programmable logic controllers and HMI operator interfaces.
- Perform engineering tasks utilizing SolidWorks for creation of Models, Assemblies, BOMs associated with Application Equipment
- Compile data and write reports for project testing.
- Confer with engineers, customers, or others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects or products.
- Develop and conduct, tests, to validate new materials and processes for new application equipment to bring to market.
- Validate existing materials and processes for new application equipment.
- Support research and development activities for new product technologies.
- Establish rapport with customers and develop business relationships within the customer's organization.
- Read current literature, attend meetings or conferences, or talk with colleagues to stay abreast of new automotive technology or competitive products.
- Adhere to EMS and IATF 16949 Policies and Procedures.
- Coordinate with the Toolroom as well as external suppliers and global team members.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned by the manager.
Characteristics & Attributes:
- Ability to read and write technical specifications and reports.
- Ability to proficiently use various company-related and external systems and databases.
- Ability to work effectively with customers, internal/external personnel, and suppliers.
- Ability to proficiently operate office technology and equipment (e.g., computer systems).
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to prioritize and plan work activities to meet time sensitive deadlines, be detail- oriented and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage several projects simultaneously.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
- Ability to execute mechanical skills related to electrical tester design and equipment trouble shooting and repair.
Must Haves (Basic Qualifications):
- Associate degree in Electrical / Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineering or closely related field.
- Minimum 1 years of experience in manufacturing and/or the automotive industry preferred.
- Must have problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with various Computer Aided Design (CAD-CAM) software (e.g., DraftSight, PLC Programming).
- Must be strong with computers and demonstrated skills in office applications such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Nice to Haves (Preferred Qualifications):
- Master's Degree in Engineering
- Strong automotive and/or manufacturing background
- Experience with programs such as SolidWorks
- To have an understanding of electrical properties of materials.
- Experience within process or manufacturing engineering within automotive industry and understanding of IATF 16949 highly desired
