Job Summary
Aptive is seeking a full-time HR Generalist to join our People Operations team.
Collaborating with key stakeholders across departments and functions, this role will be focused on supporting, coordinating or leading general HR tasks including (but not limited to) onboarding, employee relations, benefits administration, performance management, risk management and retention activities.
This position is best suited for a person who easily connects with people to understand their perspective. You should be highly organized, articulate across all communication mediums, comfortable with explaining policies and procedures and have a collaborative mindset. As a self-starter, you should be able to prioritize competing tasks efficiently, value open communication and a team environment and be able to handle sensitive and/or confidential topics with absolute discretion.

Working as part of the People Operations department, this role will report to the Director of People Operations and offer the right candidate exposure to all areas of HR with growth opportunity as an HR Specialist or HR Manager.
This position is 100% telework eligible, however, candidates who can work from the Old Town office in Alexandria, VA for one to two days per week are strongly preferred. Office hours and days are flexible; garage parking is paid for.
Primary Responsibilities
- Proactively support, coordinate or lead general HR tasks including (but not limited to) employee relations, engagement and retention; benefits administration; performance management; risk management; and payroll.
- Maintain an operational understanding of U.S. employment laws, regulations and requirements
- Deliver trustworthy advice and guidance to all relevant stakeholders; support employees with information about benefits, established policies and procedures, career competency expectations, and more.
- Offer partnership and collaboration to the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion group, Aptive Cares and other relevant centers of excellence.
- Actively support activities around performance planning and evaluation administration.
- Support the development of relevant training opportunities and programs in close collaboration with the Learning and Development team; present relevant training to various audiences.
- Support onboarding and orientation.
- Maintain electronic personnel records in various systems.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2 or more years of HR or related experience with strongly preferred experience working in small to mid-sized government consulting firms.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, business, finance, the humanities or a related field; SHRM or PHR certifications a plus.
- Efficient HR administration, conflict management, mediation and people engagement skills, with a strong knowledge of HR functions and best practices.
- Excellent record-keeping ability, written and verbal communication skills, and decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
- Works comfortably under pressure, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and a strong attention to detail.
- Solid computer literacy with capability in email, MS Office and related HRIS, accounting and ACS, preferably in ADP Workforce Now, Unanet and iCIMS.
