SALARY:  $58,500

The Arab-American Family Support Center (AAFSC) is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization established in 1994 to provide culturally and linguistically competent, trauma-informed social services. Our mission is to empower immigrants and refugees with the tools they need to successfully acclimate to the world around them and become active participants in their communities. While our doors are open to all, with 36 languages represented across staff, AAFSC has developed cultural and linguistic expertise serving members of NYC’s Arab, Middle Eastern, North African, Muslim, and South Asian (AMENAMSA) immigrant and refugee communities.

Job Summary: 

 

The NYC Family Justice Centers (FJCs) are an initiative of the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence to reduce barriers faced by survivors of domestic and gender-based violence (GBV). GBV can include intimate partner and family violence, elder abuse, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking.  The NYC Family Justice Centers are co‐located multidisciplinary service centers providing vital social services, civil legal, and criminal justice assistance for survivors of domestic and gender-based violence and their children—all under one roof.  Arab American Family Support Center is co-located at the FJCs and partners with the Mayor’s Office, the District Attorney’s Office, and other civil legal and community-based organizations to provide a safe and welcoming place for victims to receive various servicesAAFSCNY staff at the FJC provides crisis intervention, case management services, advocacy, information and referrals, and practical assistance to survivors, providing client-centered safety assessments and risk management plans.  

 

The High Risk Case Managers will provide ongoing case management services to high risk GBV clients at the FJCsIntensive GBV Case Managers will carry a caseload of high-risk cases with a specific focus on working with complex, intersectional cases of GBV including, but not limited to, human trafficking and sexual violenceSuch services provided by these staff may include, but are not limited to, crisis intervention, ongoing safety and risk assessment, short-term psycho educational counseling, criminal justice, civil legal, public benefits, housing and shelter advocacy, escorting clients to appointments, and providing court orientation and accompanimentStaff will also provide follow-up with clients to ensure that clients are accessing and successfully connecting with the array of supportive services available at the Center. 

 

 

Essential Job Duties: 

 

  • Provide ongoing safety planning, risk assessment, case management, crisis intervention, and advocacy to victims of domestic and gender-based violence at the Family Justice Center, with a specific focus on complex, high risk cases of intimate partner violence, trafficking, family violence and sexual assault. 

  • Provide psycho-educational counseling to help clients mitigate their trauma and explore safety options and work with them to identify short- and long-term goals. 

  • Carry a caseload of high-risk clients and work closely with ENDGBV/FJC Administrative staff, District Attorney’s Office staff, NYPD, NYC Health, and Hospital staff, HRA staff and other partner agencies, that includes representing the client’ needs in case review meetings. 

  • Partner with clients to determine appropriate referrals to onsite city agency and community-based partners for mental health counseling, civil legal, economic empowerment, and law enforcement personnel, as needed; complete appropriate forms, including the FJC Referral and Consent Forms; and communicate, if consent is given, any pertinent information to the partner staff member, to help best meet client’s needs and concerns. 

  • Provide support to clients in navigating the criminal justice, social services, housing, and Family Court systems including assessing a client’s housing options through the City’s coordinated entry system (CAPS) and helping clients file for Family Court orders of protection from the FJC’s. 

  • Escort clients to appointments as needed with criminal justice personnel, civil attorneys, public assistance staff and public housing authorities (HPD or NYCHA); 

  • Provide advocacy to clients with the police, prosecutors, housing, shelters, schools, public assistance and other entitlements. 

  • Provide on-going follow up to victims to assist in securing all services needed through the FJC’s or in community and help them meet their identified goals. 

  • Provide court orientation, advocacy, accompaniment, and support as needed. 

  • Attend ongoing FJC team and collaboration meetings, required trainings, and workshops.
