The Opportunity

We are seeking a full-time Research Associate to join the Translation team to assist with in vivo mouse experiments, as well as cell-based and molecular assays. The ideal candidate is a professional, collegial individual who can carry out behavioral animal studies with care and precision and works well independently and as part of a larger team. The RA will work closely with other team members to test novel therapies for various skin conditions. The chosen candidate will also have the opportunity to help advance the translational program at Arcadia. This high growth role is an ideal opportunity for candidates seeking a chance to learn a broad range of experimental skills and advance quickly as a researcher both in and out of the lab. 

• Working with live mice. Techniques used include subcutaneous injection, isoflurane anesthetization, application of topical treatments, and humane euthanization
• Organizing, preparing for, and executing longitudinal behavioral neuroscience experiments
• Completing manual and automated analyses of in vivo experiments
• Reading and adhering to all relevant protocols, assisting with drafting animal protocol amendments and renewals, and ensuring mouse health and safety by adhering to all regulatory bodies’ standards for mouse maintenance
• Keeping accurate and up-to-date records of every mouse in an online database
• Maintaining cell lines and implementing cell-based assays
• Executing routine molecular biology experiments (PCR, RNA isolation and sequencing, etc)
• Keeping detailed and accurate experimental notes
• Participating in group meetings and discussions

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related discipline (neuroscience, cellular biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, etc). A Master’s degree is a plus.
• > 1 years of experience in handling rodents, including standard injection techniques is required
• Familiarity with a common cellular and molecular biology techniques is required
• Strong organizational and documentation skills are required
• Additional experience running rodent behavioral assays and experience harvesting tissue is a plus
• Familiarity with programming and data analysis (running scripts, using Jupyter notebooks) is a plus

Successful applicants can expect to be compensated between $80,000-$90,000 with benefits and a highly competitive equity offering, depending on experience level. The Research Associate, In Vivo Screening is part of the Translation Team and reports to the Translation Pilots Lead. The position will require the individual to work onsite at our satellite vivarium facility in South San Francisco, CA as well as our headquarters in Berkeley, CA.
