What are the responsibilities and job description for the Musician, Organist position at Archdiocese of St. Louis?
Duties and Responsibilities
- Accompanies weekly rehearsals of parish choir(s) and extra rehearsals of choirs(s) in preparation for Easter and Christmas (up to three, each)
- Accompanies specialty choirs (re: HandBell or Children’s Choir), when ministering at liturgies
- Present five minutes before prelude for consultation
- May assist Director of Music Liturgy with maintenance of parish instruments.
- Continuously updates professional and liturgical education through reading, workshops, conferences, private study, etc.
- Available for ministry at weddings, if asked. Stipend is to be established by Director of Music Liturgy in consultation with musician.
Knowledge &Experience Requirements
- Ability to play and read music, understanding of basic music theory, such as key signatures, meter, and standard notation.
- Ability to play organ, keyboards and/or guitar.
- Some vocal experience helpful, including ability to sing with accurate pitch and rhythm.
- Willingness to work with people.
- Knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgy, music resources, current hymnals, etc.
- Maintains and develops personal skills through practice.
Relationships Requirements
- Ability to work with Pastor, and other musicians.
- Maybe asked to provide music for additional services during Holy Week, Christmas, sacramental celebrations, weddings, and funerals.
