The Atlanta History Center is looking for a highly motivated and results-oriented professional to fill the full-time role within the organization of Research Manager.
The Reference Manager oversees all aspects of reference services of the Kenan Research Center. This includes registering patrons, answering reference questions from onsite and offsite patrons, scheduling research appointments to visit the Kenan Research Center, and carrying out the policies and procedures contained in the Kenan Research Center's Access Policy. This incumbent creates an d maintains the schedule for staff and volunteers who work in the reading room, and compiles visitation and user statistics. The incumbent works closely with community partners to facilitate and develop participatory archiving projects, exhibitions, workshops, and other events to achieve the objectives of the Atlanta History Center's Collecting Initiative.
- Schedule appointments for patrons and physically retrieve collection material
- Answer reference questions according to the guidelines outlined in the Access Policy
- Develop a high proficiency in using the Atlanta History Center’s collection databases
- Monitor the use of collection material by ensuring patrons adhere to the rules established in the Access Policy
- Register and provide an orientation to new visitors to the Kenan Research Center
- Create weekly staff and volunteer schedules for the reading room
- Track the use of collections and compile visitation and contact statistics on a weekly basis
- Reshelve collection material
- Handle debit/credit card and cash transactions and provide financial reports to the business office
- Manage the circulation of library materials for Atlanta History Center staff
- Work with contract vendors to ensure the working use of computers and microfilm readers in the reading room
- Maintain a consistent and satisfactory level of supplies and forms in the reading room
- Make copies of collection material as requested by patrons according to the guidelines of the Access Policy
- Work with Building Services to ensure the cleanliness and security of the reading room
- Work a Tuesday – Saturday schedule
