Job Title: Makerspace Facilitator (Part-Time)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY
The Makerspace Facilitator engages our guests in iterative thinking, creative thinking, and critical thinking. The CREATE spaces at Arizona Science Center are the platforms that facilitate it. The Makerspace Facilitator ensures implementation of services at Arizona Science Center, specifically in our maker’s spaces CREATE and CREATE Inside, to inspire, educate, and engage curious minds through science and making. Makerspace Facilitators represent the “public face of the Science Center” and will work in the CREATE space, greeting visitors and engaging them in programming and activities. Makerspace Facilitators assist guests in becoming familiar with the activities, encourage visitors to experiment, and provide answers to questions. Makerspace Facilitators will also design, prepare, and facilitate programs/workshops as needed. Makerspace Facilitators will work in the CREATE Challenges areas, set up tabletop activities, assist in the kitting process, and maintain areas. During their shifts, they will also have time to participate in self-directed training opportunities and assist with projects in the Resource Centers that include a Wood Shop, Artistry Hub, and Electronics Zone. Successful Makerspace Facilitators will be receptive, collaborative, outgoing, friendly, engaging, and natural problem solvers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned as needed:
- Guest Engagement
- Engages guests in conversation, exploration, and experimentation in the makerspace
- Facilitate educational demonstrations of making equipment and tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, soldering irons, etc
- Lead small group workshops and drop-in activities
- Ask questions to encourage the maker mindset in all guests and program participants
- Provide excellent customer service, group greetings, and general visitor information
- Develop new content for workshops and drop-in activities
- Carry out cleaning and sanitation protocols
- Project Management
- Assist with the management of inventory and organization of supplies for all programs and drop-in activities
- Assist with the sourcing and creating of STEM activity kits and materials for special projects as needed
- Manage deadlines to produce materials to support the larger operations of Arizona Science Center
- Continued Learning
- Participate in self-directed training on new equipment and tools
- Train other staff on proper and safe equipment usage
- Stay informed on new findings within the larger Maker Community
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEMakerspace experience, education, or museum background is preferred but not required
Experience engaging people in interactive, hands-on learning experiences
Experience in planning and coordinating activities
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no managerial, supervisory responsibilities.

- A makerspace, education, or museum background is preferred
- The ability to speak Spanish is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to produce routine written and oral reports and collaborating correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
