Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the maintenance and grooming of the District headquarters grounds.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an "at will" employer.
Education and experience: Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, and to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions and familiarity with plumbing and electrical equipment.
Physical requirements: Ability to operate various types of mowing equipment.
Working conditions: Ability to perform assigned duties in all types of weather as well as other work conditions, e. g. noise, dust and fumes.
Licenses, registrations and certifications: Valid driver’s license. Applicants for this position must obtain a Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) with tanker (“N”) endorsement within 180 calendar days of hire. Failure to obtain the required CDL certification within the 180-day period may result in immediate termination.
A pre-employment drug/alcohol test will be conducted after a contingent offer of employment or transfer has been made, and prior to the candidate performing any work for the Department in that capacity. Internal applicants who are already in a safety-sensitive position will not be subject to pre-employment drug/alcohol testing; however, offers to internal applicants who are not in a safety-sensitive position will be contingent upon pre-employment drug/alcohol testing. Subject to additional drug/alcohol testing according to the provisions of the ARDOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.
A criminal background check will be required to determine suitability of employment, and failure to meet these standards may cause the applicant to be rejected or terminated from that position.

- Mow, edge, and trim grounds and shrubs biweekly during the growing season.
- Haul and unload trash and discarded batteries daily.
- Assist in cleaning mechanic bays and maintain main building grounds during non-growing season (winter, approximately four (4) months a year).
- Perform miscellaneous tasks, e. g. clean restrooms, washroom, etc.
- Take water samples for the Health Department when requested, remove flag during inclement weather, and pump water out of air conditioner/heating duct system as needed.
