Position Summary:

The Arkansas State University (A-State) Assistant Director of Student Conduct manages day to day student conduct cases and adjudicates cases in a fair and consistent manner. The Assistant Director of Student Conduct is responsible for facilitating dialogue that helps students reflect on their past behaviors and build skills to help them be successful in the future. This position manages on and off campus cases in accordance with the Standards of Student Conduct. The Assistant Director of Student Conduct will also serve as a liaison to campus partners and assist with training and outreach efforts. They will also perform critical administrative functions.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Program Development and Management

  • Assist with the implementation of an administrative student conduct program
  • Receive, evaluate, investigate, and adjudicate complaints and allegations of violations of the Code of Student Conduct.
  • Serve as a formal or informal hearing officer as designated
  • Maintain electronic conduct files on assigned cases, track sanctions and follow-up actions and prepare conduct reports.
  • Places administrative holds as needed
  • Oversee All University Conduct Board hearings
  • Maintains a working knowledge of and collaborates with campus departments and community agencies
  • Serve as a resource person to administrators, faculty, staff and students regarding general and special conduct issues and assist in ensuring university-wide compliance to the policies and procedures contained in the Standards of Student Conduct.
  • Provides input in developing departmental goals, strategies, operations, and processes to enhance learning strategies for students
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned·
  • Administration:
  • Coordinate, plan, and assist in the administration and evaluation of the Office of Student Conduct
  • Coordinate and Serve on the Committee for Criminal History Admissions·
  • Assist other Student Affairs departments with events and programs·
  • Maintain confidentiality when dealing with students and student records·
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Student Development
  • Assist in the selection and training of the All University Conduct Board members
  • Help coordinate/execute training for all constituents involved in the student conduct process
  • Proactively administer the student conduct process to ensure positive learning outcomes while enforcing established standards
  • Conduct regular follow-up with student violators or students with identified problems
  • Serve as liaison with University constituents in coordinating education programs for students as related to Student Conduct
  • Serve as a resource person and make appropriate referrals
  • Professionalism

  • Provides leadership, mentoring and role modeling for students
  • Seeks knowledge and information to develop oneself professionally
  • Adheres to ASCA professional standards
  • Maintains an awareness of student concerns through formal contacts (i.e., office hours, appointments) and informal interactions
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

General Days/Hours: Monday-Friday
some evening and weekend hours required

Reports to the Director of Student Conduct. Daily contact with University staff, students, and campus constituents.

Preferred Qualifications:

- An earned Master's Degree
- Experience with personal computers using Microsoft Office.
- Experience with Banner and Maxient SoftwareKnowledge/Skills/Ability:Proven ability in assisting students in ethical decision-making and reflection on behavior, values, and community membership.
Familiarity with student development theory, higher education law for Student Affairs, and emerging/relevant issues regarding student conduct.
Ability to prioritize and work autonomously in a higher traffic environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proven ability to work with diverse populations.
Demonstrated ability to analyze complex situations.

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned Bachelor’s Degree in student affairs administration or a related field required.

Two (2) years of experience (including graduate work) in student conduct, residence life, or related area.
