Maintenance Laborer

POSITION OVERVIEW

This is an entry-level position in the truck shop requiring the ability to perform physically demanding duties in a copper mining environment. The Maintenance Laborer is expected to perform general laborer duties in the Mine Maintenance Department. The intent of the position is to train the individual so they can move up in the department and eventually become a mechanic.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Wash equipment with steam cleaner.
• Perform housekeeping.
• Operate forklift.
• Assist mechanics when necessary.
• Work safely and obey all established safety and health policies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Must be mechanically inclined.
• Requires working a 10-hour shift schedule. Working weekends may be necessary.
• Requires wearing personal protective equipment as required to minimize health exposure in mining environment.
• Requires working in the field in all climate conditions as well as working independently.
• Must be able to work from verbal communication and be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and standard operating procedures.
• Must be able to lift moderately heavy objects, climb a ladder and stand for extended periods of time.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Must have a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
• Some maintenance experience preferred but not necessary.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
