What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tax Processor position at Ascensus?
Section 1: Position Summary
Responsible for the monthly, quarterly, and annual federal and state income tax returns for Ascensus Trust’s fiduciary tax reporting. Duties will include the filing of State and Federal tax returns, assisting with tax projects, performing tax research, responding to tax notices, and answering audit information requests. The position will also be responsible for managing, reporting, and filing of the Trust’s and Trust affiliates Unclaimed Property process. The Tax Analyst will be expected to have strong analytical skills, a thorough understanding of tax rules and ensure proper tax treatment of trust reporting responsibilities.

Section 2: Job Functions, Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Filing and reporting of the Trust’s fiduciary tax returns including but not limited to Forms 1099, 945, W2, 941, 5498, 1042, and 1042
Prepare and carry out all functions related to Unclaimed Property reporting for the trust department and Ascensus affiliates
Maintain and monitor tax calendar to ensure timely filing of federal and state taxes and tax reporting
Responds to tax notices
Answers audit information requests
Stay current with any regulatory tax reporting requirements and ensures that all procedural updates are made pursuant to the regulations
Provide training to other departments when needed
Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders on tax related issues
Create and maintain detailed procedures that can be shared across departments
Provide regular status updates to Senior Leadership on the status tax and unclaimed property reporting
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Section 3: Experience, Skills, Knowledge Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Mathematics, or equivalent work experience
- Strong MS-Office software applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, & Visio (familiarity with Access preferred)
- Experience in the retirement or banking industry preferred
- Experience in leading associates including training and feedback
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and manage tasks
- Have knowledge of the overall business to know when certain processes change, how that may affect another department, and be able to work with that department’s leader to review possible conflicts.
- Ability to work in a team environment to ensure common goal of providing exceptional customer service
- Ability to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned
- Ability to work well under pressure with multiple priorities and deadlines in a high stress environment
- Ability to lead a team and/or project successfully
- Ability to work independently while actively engaging a strong team environment.
