POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is accountable and responsible for the management of human, fiscal, and material resources for the Nursing Departments in collaboration with the Director of Nursing. The ADON assures the optimal functionality of activities and services provided by the nursing staff. The ADON will work, together with the Director of Nursing to ensure quality care and outstanding customer service to all patients and their families, as well as create and maintain great employee relationships among staff.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for operations of the nursing departments, performance improvements, staff enrichment, gives direction to staff and nursing supervisors
- Responsible for maintaining quality of care throughout the entire facility, to include inpatient, outpatient and residential
- Develops departmental goals for the Nursing department and objectives following the corporate philosophy and mission.
- Assures on-going compliance with applicable laws and regulations: Joint Commission Standards (TJC), State COMAR and DEA regulation standards.
- Assigns duties and coordinates nursing services; evaluates nursing care and activities ensuring patient care is age, sex, and physically sensitive; ensures patient care is delivered efficiently following standard of care and physician orders.
- Manages a staff of nurses, techs, and administrative support staff
- Maintains high personal standards for patient satisfaction, productivity, learning, cooperation, responsiveness, communication and optimism.
- Prioritizes the safety of the patients served and Ashley employees.
- Effectively communicate with staff and leadership throughout the organization.
- Participates in on call rotation, staff and patient support also during afterhours.
- Supervises laboratory, nursing assistant, Waste management, Nursing online resource, college and pharmacy contracts.
- Investigates and develops/recommends action plans for accident/incident reports, staff concerns and follows-up on data with necessary personnel.
- Directs ordering of stock drugs, maintenance of equipment and oversees completion and maintenance of controlled substance records in accordance with the DEA..
- Directs, reviews and evaluates departmental quality improvement, monitoring staff performance and corrective action. Directs and performs documentation audits, monitor MBON contracts and certifications to assure ongoing compliance.
- Participates in Interviews, committee meetings and quality improvement activities when designated.
- Educates staff and patient community through lectures and departmental in-service.
- Performs the duties and responsibilities of a Registered Nurse.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Associates Degree in Nursing Required or BSN degree preferred
- Currently licensed as a RN or CARN through the State of MD Board of Nursing or compact state required’
- Active CPR certification required
- Minimum 5 years of recent nursing experience required; 2 years’ experience in Addiction/Psych Nursing desirable.
- Previous Director or Assistant Director of nursing experience required.
- Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing
- Ability to accurately measure medical doses as prescribed
- Possesses critical thinking skills
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Word and Excel
- Ability to apply common sense understanding in following detailed medical instructions from the Medical Director.
- Ability to be sensitive to the needs of chemically dependent patients and work through staff and patient problems.
