ASOTIN COUNTY JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Office Assistant (Under Collective Bargaining)
REPORTS TO: **Juvenile Court Administrator
SUMMARY: **Performs a variety of specialized and highly responsible office support work of an administrative nature and performs other related work as required.
NATURE OF WORK:
This is specialized and highly responsible office support work of an administrative nature requiring the employee to exercise considerable and independent judgment in the planning, coordinating, and supervision of work accomplishment. Work of this class is distinguished by the continuing responsibility to relieve the department head of the day-to-day administrative details. Work involves considerable contact with the public, other County departments, agencies at the state and local level, and public and private officials who can significantly impact the service and its credibility. Work requires the operation of office equipment where both speed and accuracy are necessary to the proper and efficient function of the office and the quality of public service.
Work is performed independently under the general guidance of the department head that delegates responsibility and reviews work for quality and thoroughness of service provided.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The ability to read, write, speak and comprehend the English language. Physical abilities include standing and /or sitting for extended periods of time, reaching, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, pulling and fingering.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Considerable knowledge of modern clerical, accounting, and general office principles, practices and techniques; considerable knowledge of the legal subject matter to which work relates.
- Knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic.
- Knowledge of correct and effective use of English grammar.
- Considerable knowledge of grant applications and common grant practices.
- Ability to perform accounting duties within several grants, projects within the grants and the Current Expense budget of the County.
- Ability to understand and apply extensive or obscure guidelines to a wide variety of work situations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, public and private officials.
- Ability to master judicial field specific computer programs.
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
- Ability to perform typing at an acceptable level of proficiency as required by the position.
- Ability to operate equipment associated with the position in a proper and skillful manner.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Graduation from a standard high school or its equivalent. Two years of progressively responsible clerical, financial and computer experience applicable to the work of the position.
Substituting on a month for month basis, any combination of experience, education and training which would provide the level of knowledge and ability required.
