Director & General Counsel to ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions
Job Purpose:
As the General Counsel with ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions, you will be leading a small team of legal and compliance professionals in a truly global organization. As a manager for the legal function in Global Solutions, you will be responsible for providing legal and compliance support to our Business Areas, currently offering access solutions and other safety solutions within Hospitality, Marine, Critical Infrastructure, Key and Asset Management, Senior Care, Self Storage, and Construction. Together with your team, you will be identifying and managing legal risks and driving compliance awareness. You and your team members will be instructing outside legal counsel on M&A, litigation and arbitration, and other material legal matters. You will be collaborating closely with the Group’s legal team, IP Management professionals, the M&A team, and with the General Counsels of other divisions in the Group on matters of group-wide importance. You and your team will also be supporting the division’s strategic goals, including both organic and non-organic growth.
What you will be doing:
The duties and responsibilities for this role include the following.
- Leading the divisional Legal function, with manager responsibility for currently six full time employees working in three different locations, and budget responsibility for the function;
- Responsibility for designing and implementing procedures and internal processes designed to bring down Group legal and compliance policies to the division and the respective Business Areas;
- Supporting Business Areas and other divisional functions globally in a variety of legal matters, including data protection and cyber security laws, export control and sanctions regimes, product safety and product liability, intellectual property, and labor laws;
- Leading the legal workstream in M&A transactions and integrations of acquired companies;
- Supporting on the drafting, negotiation, and interpretation of a wide range of contracts, including sale and purchase of goods and services, technology, software and IP-related agreements and licenses;
- Supporting on claims management, litigation/arbitration and pre-litigation/arbitration activities, including working with and managing outside counsel (and managing the budget for the matter) to develop strategies to initiate, defend, resolve and prevent various forms of litigation and arbitration;
- Supporting on the legal aspects of crisis management and participation in crisis management teams as required;
- Monitoring and analyzing legal and regulatory developments of relevance to our operations;
- Ensuring that legal exposure in the division is reported to Group; and
- Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
In this position, you report to the divisional Chief Financial Officer, based in Stockholm. The role is preferably based in Stockholm, Sweden. Some domestic and international travel will be required.
Who you are:
The right candidate has:
- A Master’s degree in Law from a reputable university;
- At least ten years of relevant experience from international business law, including from an in-house legal department as well as a reputable business law firm;
- Prior leadership experience;
- Experience from working in a multi-cultural setting;
- Experience from relevant legal and contractual matters, including M&A, commercial contract law, IPR and privacy/data protection, as well as some knowledge of trade compliance and product liability/product safety;
- Fluency in written and spoken English; other language skills are desirable;
- Sound legal and business judgment;
- Strong organizational skills, maintaining attention to detail on multiple projects simultaneously and adjusting to changing priorities and deadlines;
- Ability to proactively isolate and prioritize issues to focus on implementing both top-level, strategic solutions as well as the day-to-day initiatives;
- Excellent negotiation, drafting, analytical and communication skills;
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.;
- Must be legally eligible to work in the country where you are hired.

Some domestic and international travelling will be required.

Salary : $123,000 - $156,000
