What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Analyst position at Assurant?
The Accounting Analyst will be a key resource for various projects managed within Global Accounting, specifically the Reconciliation Center of Excellence (CoE). The Analyst also provides accurate and timely financial information to internal/external customers, Segment and Corporate management, and to regulatory agencies on behalf of Segment and Corporate management. The position serves as subject matter expert in the interpretation and application of broad areas of accounting theory, exercises influence to drive results in the accomplishment of goals, and plays a leadership role in enhancing existing processes by identifying alternative solutions and leading implementation efforts. The Accounting Analyst is familiar with a variety of process concepts, best practices, procedures, and provides guidance and development support to accounting staff.
The position will cultivate a continuous improvement culture, promote ongoing learning, and exhibit a high level of engagement in a fast-paced F&A shared services environment. The ideal candidate must be able to contribute to the Shared Service strategy and execution by applying knowledge and experience and helping develop the teams.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic (10-20%)
Key support role in developing and implementing process and performance management strategies in support of Global Accounting operations and transformation initiatives.
Ability to execute defined strategy and is appropriately aligned through operating goals and measurements.
Benchmark and/or evaluate market trends and gather market intelligence.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, functions, and locations to enhance performance.
Partner with internal and external stakeholders to drive related strategies throughout Assurant.
Operational Excellence (30%)
Support the management of AFS GL Reconciliation Center of Excellence (CoE) to ensure complete, accurate and timely accounting deliverables in accordance with accounting guidance and state and federal regulations.
Leads the ERP implementation and the transformational activities defined in the plan in partnership with Global Accounting Management
Collaborates with contributors and coworkers to identify, propose and implement approved issues resolution alternatives; leads implementation of portions of agreed upon solutions, including training staff or process participants.
Formulates, develops and administers procedures necessary to implement approved policies and procedures, and provides the overall direction necessary to ensure the delivery of standardized and streamlined processes.
Facilitate, support and implement effective performance metrics & reporting, data analytics, and monitoring of targeted performance indicators.
Reviews and analyzes financial information prepared by others
Development of Engaged, Action Oriented Employees (10-20%)
Identify best practices and skill growth opportunities in functional areas to ensure effective ongoing development of accounting processes and staff.
Work closely with staff to understand each individual needs, level or performance and assist in achieving department goals and objectives.
Drive the overall value of Finance and Accounting (30%)
Key member of the GL Reconciliation CoE team that ensures strategy, processes and skill developments across the areas, and support the overall strategic goals of AFS, Global F&A, and AIZ.
Participate / lead strategic projects that drive successful delivery of goals for Accounting.
Key liaison with the Global Accounting teams and the ERP implementation team.
Actively promotes innovation and collaboration, provides guidance, uses Assurant network or ideas and problem solving, leads on a cross site basis, actively transfers knowledge, and facilitates operational excellence.
Keeps up to date on industry trends, functional and related business trends to identify and implement best practices.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance
5 years of experience in Accounting or Finance-related areas
2 years in a shared services environment
Strong understanding of reconciliation concepts
Experience in preparing account reconciliations and appropriate supporting documentation and workpapers
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Advanced knowledge in Microsoft tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
Strong understanding of U.S. G.A.A.P., management reporting, and planning/forecasting processes
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
CPA a plus
Oracle Cloud ERP a plus
Proficiency in using Blackline or established general ledger reconciliation tool preferred
Microsoft BI Reporting / Cubes a plus
2 Years of experience in shared service center and/or financial service industry and/or insurance industry
Public accounting experience a plus
Strong Accounting and/or Audit background
Strong understanding of SOX controls and other controls over financial reporting
Strong documentation skills
Strong financial analysis, analytical abilities and proficient in manipulating and analyzing large, complex, and disparate data sets
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to work effectively across teams and independently with other disciplines
Self-starter with strong attention to detail
Six Sigma or equivalent process efficiency experience
Proficient in leveraging software to satisfy accounting and financial operational needs and requirements
