Purpose and Scope:
This position is responsible for preparing and complying with all federal and state income tax regulations and reporting. Position will also assist in gathering and preparing tax accounting information for income tax provision in financial statements.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Gather and analyze accounting and tax information in order to prepare supporting tax work papers in the preparation of the U.S. consolidated corporate income tax return and all corresponding state returns. This includes analyzing book/tax differences and review of prior year work papers.
Assist in the accounting for income taxes for the U.S. Astellas group's financial statements. This includes the analysis of tax accounts, the determination of material book/tax differences, the determination of related deferred tax activity, and the preparation of adjusting journal entries.
Prepare monthly and quarterly sales/use tax supporting documentation and journal entries. Provide assistance with monthly reversals of sales/use tax accruals.
Gather and prepare state and local apportionment for annual state tax compliance.
Prepare personal property tax returns and tax payments for various states.
Preparation of tax account reconciliations.
Gather and analyze the accounting and tax information in order to prepare the supporting work papers to determine and prepare the federal and state estimated tax payments and extension forms.
Gather and analyze information and provide adequate and effective responses to state notices.
Assist in gathering documentation in response to state income tax auditor's information requests.
Research and analyze tax inquiries and provide sound and logical written conclusions of the findings.
Other projects as assigned.
Quantitative Dimensions:
This position will have a direct impact on the cash taxes paid by the company through the completion of the federal and state tax returns, as well as sales and use and property tax calculations. This position will also have visibility with regards to accounting for income taxes for the US Astellas group's financial statements.
Organizational Context:
The Tax Analyst position reports directly to the Associate Director of Tax. There are no positions beneath this role.
Qualifications
Required
BA/BS in Accounting or equivalent experience.
2-4 years of corporate tax experience required, either with a large corporation or a public accounting firm.
Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with Excel and Microsoft Word.
Preferred
Pharmaceutical/Health care experience.
Experience with corporate tax return preparation or OneSource tax provision software.
