Microbiologist - Entry Level
ATL is seeking a dynamic Microbiologist to join our team of dedicated professional focused on client service and quality in our Blue Ash, OH location! This is an entry level microbiology laboratory position. This associate will be responsible for daily sample testing which will include weighing samples, performing serial dilutions, and plating and pouring media. Testing includes Aerobic Plate Counts and Pathogen screening by established methods.
Major Responsibilities:
- Calculate and prepare solutions for testing
- Utilizing fundamentals of microbial testing, including good aseptic technique, diluting cultures, plating microorganisms, and counting colonies.
- Use of selective and differential medias
- Ability to discern presence of contamination as indicated by unexpected or multiple morphologies, changes in appearance (plate or culture), an d changes in expected growth rate
- Recoding data in a consistent and accurate manner
- Utilizing fundamentals of microbial testing, including good aseptic technique, diluting cultures, plating microorganisms, and counting colonies.
- Willingness to work with other ATL colleagues in the lab, to lend a hand during down time and work well as part of a team.
- Lab maintenance as necessary, including stocking of consumable materials, media ordering, proper storage of research materials, and organization of microbiology cultures and lab reagents.
- Daily calibrations of instrumentation as needed, including logbook entries where necessary.
- Utilizing safe waste disposal practices in accordance with site regulations and waste vendor.
- Follow cGMP and GDP guidelines.
- Complete necessary documentation in associated logbooks and data collection sheets.
- Operate balances, autoclaves, pH meter, stomacher, pipette aid, while using aseptic technique.
- Perform other essential tasks, projects, and responsibilities as required
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Microbiology or other life science (required)
- Previous laboratory experience required (classroom setting or within Co-Op/Internship)
- Comfortable using equipment such as balances, incubators, pipettors, Biological Safety Cabinets, and autoclaves
- Strong basic math skills and in performing routine calculations
- Experience with basic MS Office programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Good attention to detail, accurate recordkeeping and limited mistakes are required.
