Atlantic Brain and Spine an affiliate of Atlantic Health System, seeks a Full-time Outpatient Scheduler for its Neurosurgical Outpatient Office in Morristown, NJ .
- The Outpatient Scheduler is responsible for a number of activities, including but not limited to, initiating patient intakes;
- scheduling appointments; performing insurance screening and verification processes; patient registration; handling a high volume of customer calls / inquiries;
responding to medical records requests and billing inquiries; preparing reports; maintenance of department records.
Job Responsibilities ·
- Answer multiple phone lines simultaneously, schedule patient appointments, and interact with physicians other practice departments.
- Communicates all pertinent information to patient / customer at initial and subsequent contacts.
- Answers incoming department calls within three rings. Fields department call volume : asks appropriate questions to screen calls, relays accurate information to caller, takes appropriate action.
- Monitors voicemail and EPIC referral work queue, initiating appropriate follow-up. Relays messages to staff per department guidelines
- Schedule patient appointments for all practice physicians and locations
- Triage patient complaints thoroughly when scheduling their appointment.
- Assists front desk staff with referral scheduling.
- Triage patients to appropriate provider per office protocol.
- Enter or verify all personal and billing / insurance information when scheduling appointments for New or Established patients.
- Documents all interactions with insurance representatives, patients / customers and interested parties.
- Follows department procedures for initiating required authorizations for services and verifying receipt of authorizations.
- Pre-registers patients per department guidelines. Obtains insurance cards, prescriptions, insurance referrals along with other required registration forms.
- Informs patient of co-payment / payment responsibilities and collects payment.
- Notify appropriate location of cancellations, reschedules, and / or Workers Comp appointments including updating appointment status in EMR.
- Complete cross-training as front desk / receptionist to fill in as needed when gaps in staffing.
Minimum Education and / or Experience Requirements
- High School degree or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1-year related work experience in a physician practice, hospital setting or directly related customer service setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Good organizational skills : ability to set priorities effectively.
- Knowledge of EPIC / EMR preferred.
- Knowledge of insurance preferred.
- Ability to float to front desk / reception as needed.
- Compensation is based on experience.
