Summary:
 
The Quality Engineer is responsible for auditing and maintaining ISO compliant processes and standards for business process, production, development, and general operations. You will work with all levels of the organization to develop and manage best practice TQM, Lean process, and Six Sigma methodologies. Must have the ability to apply key Lean/Six Sigma concepts to improve existing processes.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 
Advanced Product Quality Planning and Program Development
  • Lead, plan, organize, and participate in the APQP design and development stages for new products or products with significant engineering changes, insuring that customer requirements are met, using the APQP plan
  • Coordinate sample submissions of new product and engineering changes with customers and project engineers
  • Development of Control Plans, Process Flows, PFMEAs, and other required PPAP or FAI documentation
  • Lead PPAP process and maintain PPAP documentation for automotive customers and others who require TFAT, EI/OQ/PQ, and other production qualification requirements
 
Quaity Control
  • Provide guidance to inspectors, operators, processors, and supervisors regarding customer agreed specifications
  • Train inspection personnel on inspection methods and criteria for products
  • Ensure that products meet customer needs and expectations
 
Quality Management System
  • Quality management of the company’s products including developing and managing measurement systems that incorporate Customer’s View of Quality, in-process manufacturing quality and machine capability.
  • Perform supplier quality assurance audits for assigned suppliers, when necessary
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting of quality issues with operations and technical department
  • Meet with customers, suppliers  quality representative, and company personnel to discuss and resolve quality problems
  • When necessary, implement corrective action plans and monitor the effectiveness of the solutions
  • Support internal audits and the internal audit schedule
  • Quality records maintenance and document control
  • Use Six Sigma analysis to identify and resolve quality issues
  • Perform GRR to verify measurement system capabilities
  • Develop and monitor SPC initiatives for certain products
 
Leadership
  • Be a liaison between manufacturing and quality control
  • Participate on teams that require technical expertise
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism
  • Promote and participate actively in continuous improvement
  • Maintain working relationships with other department personnel
  • Perform other tasks as directed by manager
  • Overtime is required
  • Some travel may be required on occasion
 
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for monitoring/training of QC inspectors in new products
 
Qualifications:
  • Ability to interpret part prints, quality plans, work instructions, and apply the knowledge appropriately
  • Ability to develop and write technical documents and train personnel
  • Proficient in use of Office software including word processing, database, and spreadsheets
  • Ability to generate, read and interpret statistical reports
  • Must possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills to interact within all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated experience in formalized problem solving, 8D’s, 5 Why’s, Fishbone.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ISO 9001-2015
  • Ability to operate/program CMM and Vision System for part measurement
 
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering required
  • 3 years Mechanical/Industrial experience preferred
  • Lean/Six Sigma training preferred
 
Mathematical Skills:
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
  • Ability to perform complex applications of percentages and averages and ratios
 
 
 
Reasoning Ability:
  • Ability to deal with ambiguous situations, make decisions and take charge of production situations with clear and calm demeanor
 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • ASQ Quality Designations preferred
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt training/ certification
 
Physical Demands:
  • Extended hours sitting and viewing a computer screen, repetitive hand and wrist movements.
  • Standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally
 
Work Environment:
  • Manufacturing environment with associated noises, smells and temperatures
