What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Engineer position at Cleveland Cliffs?
Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opening for a Quality Engineer within our Coatesville location.As a Quality Engineer, you’llbe responsible for supporting daily quality activities which include the technical review of customer specifications, order setup, product inspection and testing, verifying product compliance to standards, product/process improvement, and ensuring quality system compliance. The ideal candidate will have prior steel industry experience, an engineering degree, be self-motivated, and thrive in a fast-paced work environment with complex operations.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Provide metallurgical and technical support for product and process improvement through data analysis, problem-solving, expertise in area of responsibility, metallurgical and mechanical concepts, and knowledge of customer operations and markets.
Monitor product and process variability and performance to standards.
Meet with representatives of customers/processors to provide innovative solutions to quality issues and provide customers with timely warranty solutions.
Participate in the management of material flow through the disposition of distressed material in accordance with customer and internal standards and business imperatives.
Participate in the order design & order entry systems – approving incoming new inquiries and orders, setting product capabilities, changing/improving existing order process designs, and creating/following product trials.
Provide technical solutions to internal and external customers by understanding manufacturing and product capability.
Communicate with upstream and downstream operations and non-Cleveland-Cliffs contractors to coordinate work, deliveries, and service.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Metallurgy or related field .
Strong problem-solving and data analysis skills.
Interpersonal skills and the ability to operate effectively within a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Requirements
Ideal candidates will have 2 to 5 years of experience dealing with manufacturing processes.
Experience with steel production is a plus.
