What are the responsibilities and job description for the vessel shop supervisor position at AtWork Personnel Services?
Responsibilities:
- Production/Productivity
- Possess strong productivity mindset and supervise to maximize production efficiency/output.
- Experienced in a Job Shop atmosphere and ability to manage workflow with many moving parts in a fast-paced environment.
- Experienced in managing a weld shop, preferable ASME Code Welding and all aspects of metal fabrication and metal finishing.
- Interact with Shift Lead(s) to conduct thorough shift changes that ensure production is uninterrupted.
- Create department production schedule in a multifaceted workflow environment and manage work/staff to this schedule.
- Review daily output to ensure that production goals are maintained or exceeded. * Engage all direct employees daily to ensure staff understands daily objectives, planning and goals.
- Drive performance of the team to meet all required production metrics targets and report up line on results. Develop countermeasure tactics as required to achieve required goals.
- Support the identification and implementation of production efficiency gains. * Participate in all lean events as scheduled. Complete action items from these events in a timely manner.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels and Flex labor resources as required to achieve production targets and meet customer on time delivery.
- Close jobs upon completion in MRP system.
- Supervision:
- Supervise a staff up to 20 talented metal workers and welders * Willingness to work overtime, including weekends and holidays, if required by order demand.
- Willingness to coordinate personal and vacation time to ensure Shift Supervisor coverage.
- Participate in the hiring of new staffing as required.
- Provide regular feedback to direct employees as it relates to induvial goals and conduct annual performance evaluations of hourly employees.
- Actively promote training and development. Assist with the creation of training plans that meet progressive development requirements of team members. * Ensure accuracy of staff’s time prior to payroll processing.
- Ensure proper stock of supplies. Communicate needs to Purchasing.
- Maintain virtual inventory in MRP system. Participate in cycle counts and physical inventories as scheduled.
- Provide daily communication with staff reviewing all relevant information.
- Safety:
- Knowledgeable in all aspects of safety as it relates to machine shop, weld shop & metal fabrication
- Must have a strong safety mindset, set safety expectations, supervise to safety expectations, and lead a behavior-based safety culture.
- Coordinate with the Safety Coordinator to ensure he/she and all crew members are trained to internal safety procedures and OSHA regulatory requirements and conduct periodic observations or audits as directed to identify safety issues.
- Become intimately familiar with, ensure compliance with, and enforce OSHA requirements.
- Ensure compliance with and enforce the use of PPE (safety glasses, respirators, etc.) and safety equipment.
- Promote adherence to a strong safety culture and actively engage employees to ensure they meet all safety protocols.
- Advocate participation in the site safety program.
- Advise the Safety Coordinator of problem areas and participate in Site Safety Committee.
- Conduct safety audits as scheduled. Correct any issues identified during safety audits in a timely manner.
- Document and report incidents with subsequent investigation, root cause development, and corrective action development as directed.
- Respond to all building related security/safety issues.
- Must strive to achieve ZERO “0” OSHA recordable injuries.
- 6S/Housekeeping:
- Actively apply the principles of 5S plus safety to ensure a progressive approach to process flow improvement, error detection and continuous improvement.
- Must have a strong housekeeping mindset and supervise to ensure Operators keep work areas organized and clean.
- Keep work in area organized.
- Perform 6S audits as scheduled. Address any issues identified in 6S audits in a timely manner.
- Quality
- Knowledgeable in ASME Code welding quality standards.
- Must have a strong quality mindset and supervise within an ISO 9001 management system.
- Coordinate with the QA Manager to ensure he/she and all crew members are trained to internal quality procedures and ISO requirements.
- Supervise to ensure adherence to Manufacturing Work Instructions and document control requirements.
- Interact cooperatively with Quality Control Dept. personnel to monitor and adjust processes.
- Contribute to the refinement and update of Manufacturing Work Instructions.
- Champion continuous improvement mindset throughout areas of responsibility and meet the objectives of the CIP program and VAVE initiatives. Implement CIPs as assigned.
- Perform root cause investigation and implement appropriate actions for assigned CAPA’s.
- Train new staff. Train all staff on new processes/equipment. Cross train staff as appropriate.
- Track scrap. Determine root causes of significant scrap and implement appropriate actions.
- Monitor key performance indicators. Take appropriate actions when department goals are not being met.
- Requirements:
High School Graduate (or GED)
ASME Code Welding, machine shop & metal fabrication experience
Experience applying LEAN manufacturing principles in the workplace
Leader who knows how to set expectations and supervise to those expectations
Experienced Supervisor (minimum 5 years) in a manufacturing environment
Professional who requires adherence to Company
policies/practices/requirements fairly
Skilled coach with good interpersonal skills
Team player with ability to work overtime when required, including being on call 24/7
Knowledgeable of manufacturing equipment Experienced with ISO 9001 standard Computer literate (MS Office Suite
