Job Summary
Manage mechanical and industrial engineers and technicians in the research, design, development, and evaluation of mechanical products, systems, and services. Develop processes, policies, and procedures and ensure all engineering projects align with the organization's objectives. Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, management, sales and marketing, and related departments as necessary to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and demand for engineering products and services. Manage engineering verification activities to ensure product or service deliverables are met on-time and conform to the organization's specifications. Advise leadership and other impacted departments on product or design changes which may affect profit, schedule, cost, or client relationships. Manages a team of entry/intermediate professionals or Supervisors with a focus on setting objectives, plans and tactics with direct impact on the immediate or short-term operational results of the department.Why Avantor?

What does the position do?
- Capital productivity improvement projects
- Warehouse Automation
- Administer Engineered Labor Standards programs
- Continuous improvement initiatives
- Return on investment calculations
- Identify and quantify quality impacts, safety impacts, and productivity impacts of projects
- Observe processes on the distribution center floor
- Oversee 2 industrial/mechanical engineers to support the North American Distribution Network.
- Coordinate Avantor's margin expansion program
- Develop engineering plans
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE’s) and report all near miss and first aid events.
- Be an activate participant in the continuous improvement process and follow appropriate change control procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What do you need to have?
- Experience with lean/Six Sigma/continuous improvement programs required
- 5-10 years of experience in a Distribution environment or similar
- Demonstrated successful project management with automated material handling systems
- 50-75% Travel
- Comfortable with working in a warehouse environment
- Excellent communication skills and comfortability speaking to leadership
- BS completion in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering required
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Perform duties with the highest regard for safety and quality
- Ability to understand and follow site protocols, policies and procedures
- Must be flexible, forward- thinking, motivated, and have the ability to act independently
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office with proficiency in Word and Excel
- Problem-solving skills
What would be nice to have?
- Experience with Engineered Labor standards a plus
- Experience with SAP ERP and SAP EWM systems
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings
