Responsible for assisting the student with assigned tasks of direct care and daily living activities that improve quality of life by allowing our patients to remain in a school setting while adhering to confidentiality standards and professional boundaries at all times.
Essential Job Functions
Assists the teacher in maintaining student control, orderly behavior in the classroom, helps motivate the assigned student(s); cues appropriate behaviors, and refocuses the student(s) when necessary.
Assists the assigned student(s) with instructional activities planned and developed by the teacher
Assists the assigned student(s) with review of teacher assignments; repeats/simplifies teacher presented instructions; helps student(s) in seatwork activities; redirection and prompting to task, and reviews material originally presented to students by the teacher.
Assists the teacher in housekeeping tasks in the classroom.
Tends to the personal needs of the assigned student(s), including but not limited to toileting and other hygiene needs, physical needs such as wheelchair/walker transfers, feeding schedules, monitoring medical conditions and behavior management.
Ensures that certain specially designed instruction of the assigned student(s)’ Individual Education Plan (IEP) are implemented. These may include but are not limited to; student hygiene, referrals to the School Nurse, behavior support plans, home-school communication, supervision during transition time, assignment book/book-bag checks.
Data collection as assigned by the teacher or administrator, including but not limited to behavior charts, daily logs, progress monitoring, program charting, or daily summary notes.
At the direction of the classroom teacher, communicates with the student(s)’ family, classroom teacher(s), and administration observing confidentiality of student related issues.
Accompanies the assigned student(s) upon arrival, at lunch, dismissal, on field trips and to activities outside of the classroom as indicated in the assigned student’s IEP or when necessary.
Assists related services therapists/teachers as needed throughout therapy sessions.
Other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or building administrator.
Help patient maintain good personal hygiene, such as:Assistance with bathing, toileting, grooming, shaving, skin and nail care, oral hygiene, dressing and eating
Thorough completion and coordination of all required documentation, such as:Maintaining and completing the necessary patient/family and Company documentation records upon conclusion of each visit
Observe and report significant changes in patient’s condition to Supervisor
Requirements
High school graduate, GED or equivalent of education and training
Registration or Certification as required by state law and regulation
Current CPR certification
Demonstrated proficiency in clinical assessments, documentation and compliance with aide care and policies and procedures
Basic computer skills required
Additional state specific requirements:
Continuing Education as required by state
Preferences
Pediatric and adult experience as appropriate for the patient.

Must be able to speak, write, read and understand English
Must be able to travel; company does not provide vehicles or transportation
Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling, up to 25 pounds
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds
Prolonged walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting
Must be able to sit and climb stairs
Must have visual and hearing acuity
Must have strong sense of smell and touch
Must be able to sufficiently reposition patients and move equipment without assistance
Must have sufficient strength and manual dexterity to safely operate equipment, including grasping and manipulating small objects.
Must be able to appropriately respond physically and mentally to emergency situations in the home or during transport. This may require physical strength, agility, and ability to function under stressful circumstances to evacuate a patient, to provide physical support to the suddenly weak or disabled patient, or to perform one-man CPR for a prolonged period.
Must be able to wear other personal protective equipment as needed.

Must be able to function in a wide variety of environments which may involve exposure to allergens and other various conditions
