Avellino developed the first commercially available genetic test for corneal dystrophy, providing a fast and accurate test to help guide physicians in treating their patients to prevent or delay vision loss. Avellino continues to innovate and has developed a next-generation sequencing (NGS) test for keratoconus, another eye condition. In addition to the diagnosis of these progressive eye diseases, Avellino is also developing state-of-the-art siRNA and CRISPR gene editing programs for corneal dystrophies and for treatment technologies that can be applied to diseases beyond ophthalmology. These therapies have been proven in the lab, and Avellino will proceed with human trials in the very near future. Avellino operates globally and has been recognized for its work, including being named a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum. 

Avellino developed a FDA EUA authorized coronavirus diagnostic test – the Avellino SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 Test (AvellinoCoV2 Test) – a Laboratory Developed Test (LDT) that uses Real-Time Reverse Transcriptase (RT)-PCR for the presumptive in vitro qualitative detection of nucleic acid from the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Avellino has ramped up operations to help meet the worldwide need for coronavirus testing.


Position Summary

AIOnco seeks a Program Lead to coordinate and track the various projects in AI/Machine Learning, Bioinformatics, Laboratory operations and procurement of biospecimen. The Program Lead will be involved in coordinating and managing project terms with various domestic and foreign collaborators such as, but not limited to, universities, hospitals, research centers, bio banks, pathology labs, and biorepositories. Other duties include coordinating/tracking of day to day operations of the science team. This role is full-time and will be based in our headquarters, Menlo Park, California.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinating/Overseeing/tracking processes of obtaining research biosamples from multiple national & international sites, coordinate storage and mailing of biosamples to our central biosample repositories.
  • Assist in preparing Institutional review board protocol and informed consent document preparation/submission and compliance with institutional review board policies. May involve multiple sites.
  • Assist in coordination and integration of various projects from the science team.
  • Participate in the preparation of written documents, including procedures, presentations, and proposals.
  • Conduct literature search and generate systematic reviews/reports
  • Collects, evaluates, and interprets data to provide needed information to supervisor and other staff members. Updates notebooks, records, and databases as needed.
  • Participating in meetings and taking minutes.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in biological, biomedical, health sciences, or a related field
  • 5-8 years of work experiences in academia or industry
  • Ability to organize effectively and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) to develop strong work relationships with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes
  • General computer skills including Microsoft Suite
  • Passionate about working in a fun, fast-paced, and intellectually challenging environment

 

 Preferred

  • Knowledge and skills in molecular biology (Genetics and sequencing)
  • Knowledge in cancer biology / bioinformatics / data science / statistics
  • Knowledge of research study policies and procedures
  • Fluent in Mandarin, Korean, or both

Work Environment:  This job operates in a professional office environment and a clinical lab environment.Travel: Travel is not normally expected for this position but occasionally required both domestically and internationally.
