General Summary of Duties:
The JW Marriott Nashville Food & Beverage Summer Internship is a paid educational opportunity for students seeking to fulfill their school’s experiential educational requirements while pursuing a career in Hospitality Management. Our F&B Interns will play a valuable role within the various F&B outlets throughout the hotel. This internship includes exposure to the various areas within the F&B Division to include rotations with hands on experience within the different outlets such as however not limited to; Stompin’ Grounds, Stompin’ Grounds Market, Cabana Pool Bar, In Room Dining, Executive Lounge, Cumberland Bar, Banquets, Bourbon Steak and more.
The internship typically begins anywhere from early May through late August and consists of 12 weeks of consecutive full time work.
Examples of Duties (includes but is not limited to the following):
- Rotate through the functional areas of the property to gain an understanding of how each department contributes to the success of the hotel
- Learn the operational workings of each restaurant and lounge by observation of Internal Guests, participation in meetings, asking questions, and special departmental projects
- Clear, clean and reset tables as needed
- Carry out cashiering functions in closing checks and end of shift paperwork
- Perform opening and closing procedures, and side work duties according to station rotation assignment
- Develop skills and leadership under the guidance of F&B leaders through hands-on work and shadowing
- Complete tasks by utilizing and learning systems, tools, equipment, and software that apply
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned
Position Requirements:
- Ability to speak, read, write and understand English
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Professional demeanor appropriate for a luxury environment
- Restaurant experience through either part or full-time work required
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills along with competitive drive and initiative
- To be eligible for this program, you must be currently enrolled in a college/university in the United States and possess unrestricted US work
- International students must be studying on an F-1 or J-1 Visa
- Students must commit to a consecutive 10-12 week internship, as per the intern rotation and their school agreement
- Ability to work mornings, evenings, and overnight shifts as it pertains to the needs of the hotel
Education:
- Working towards bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or associate’s degree (A.A.) in hospitality, hotel or tourism management from four-year or two-year College or University; or equivalent combination of education and experience
