What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Assistant (Certified) position at Avera?
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for providing legal assistant and legal secretarial support for the Avera Health Patient Accounts Attorney, and for reporting the status of the department.
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma is required along with prior legal experience and/or diploma with a degree in legal assistant studies.
- Knowledge and proficiency in dealing with Fair Debt Collection Practice Act (FDCPA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Health Information Technology and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) and Gramm- Leach- Bliley Act (GLBA) is preferred (but can be acquired on the job), in addition to state and local civil procedure statutes and rules, workers compensation, and bankruptcy.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
- National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) certification or NALA certification or Bachelors of Science Degree in Paralegal Studies obtained within one year of employment is required.
