General Job Description Summary:
Under the supervision of the Transportation Manager, this position is responsible for planning final mile delivery operations in SFO, SMF, PDX & SEA markets. This position primarily collaborates with the market’s Operations Manager, Operations Supervisor, Driver Partners (DP) and Delivery Service Providers (DSP).
Primary Responsibilities:
Overall responsibility for achieving transportation cost per box targets and optimization in SFO, SMF, PDX & SEA markets as prescribed by leadership & finance
Use client forecasts and launch schedules to determine driver capacity requirements 1-2 months in advance in order to ensure we have the correct supply (DP & DSP) on the day
Select and manage all DSP vendors in SFO, SMF, PDX & SEA markets
Manage relationships with the market driver pool. Assist in new driver recruitment and on-boarding to maximize driver engagement and retention
Coach and mentor driver partners and delivery service providers to enable achievement of OTD, final mile cost, and customer satisfaction metrics
Build market routing strategy e.g. routing parameters, hub strategy, large v small vehicles & volume allocation guidelines in order for routing team to execute
Performs other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
At least three years’ related experience in the local market required (transportation, last mile delivery and dispatch)
Excellent knowledge of local market geography, transportation arteries and traffic patterns
Strong supervisory and leadership skills, with the ability to develop relationships with and influence independent contractors outside of the context of a direct reporting relationship
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with diverse audiences
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines in a time-sensitive work environment
Proficient with Google Drive, Slack and related operations software
Support expectations:
On-site presence is expected 3-4 days a week dictated by the volume of the market & DSP support requirements. For SFO specifically, on-site presence is expected Sundays Mondays and Tuesdays. Overnight accounts may require late evening presence at the warehouse when staffing is short. Store to Door clients will require monthly visits to ensure that pick up protocols and procedures are being followed.
Overall flexibility required as and when significant obstacles surface that will impact your primary KPIs in SFO, SMF, PDX & SEA
